You make very nice labels sara. I haven't used that print because I like the label so much

I second that.  I also received a Mexicana print from one of sara's giveaways last year, thanks again btw.
I want to grow it so much but the label and packaging looks so neat like is meant to be a collectors item, I can't bring myself to open it.

I would highly recommended growing out the chichon nindo......

ohh yeah and a question for the experimenters out there, so i saw that awhile back someone posted claiming they grew pan cyans on a substrate of rye grass seed, and says he has pics but apparently never posted them. has anyone tried this??

Me too! They have such beautiful caps right! Really pretty when grown outside in the garden

Actually they are :stonesun: babies

The master himself :bow2: (Miss ya SS!)

Kay I'll save you a print as the season warms up and they come

Don't have any gardens unfortunately . They did give me my first ever canopy in trays though, so cheers.

So these bisporus wont germinate on agar, thats a liquid culture of them possibly? that's what those rye jars were shot up with...and how do these jars look? Thing is i dont trust em, i got em from the only vendor that has em left and everything else they sent me is contAminated or dead...whataya you guys think?...also i have cased pan cyans and ill post a good pic of those later..but this bisporus is what really is on my mind...i just wish another vendor had them! It's confusing because the cube syringes from them only grew this wierd white mold that's whispy and non linear..def contam of some sort and the bisporus so far almost looks the same as that..whispy and non linear that is..

Pans look kinda wierd. Hard to tell if it's healthy, especially if you don't have much experience with them. If you knocked up those jars via LC that was inoculated with spores, there is no way you can tell if they look good or not, especially with pans.

When I had stubborn spores, I inoculated LCs as well because I couldn't get them going on agar. The only difference is that once I got germination, I transferred that to agar and inoculated after a couple of transfers. That's the only safe way to do it.

My pan cyan goliath vial ended up being galindoi :frown:. They started producing stones after full colonization. I do have a couple of cultures that look kinda strange though. It's very thick and white and it bruises the most intense blue I've ever seen. If those are indeed pans, I'm thinking that the vendor cross contaminated the vial probably. Could have mislabeled them myself but it's very unlikely IMO.

Thanks Supa,
I'll try LC with my stubborn Jamaican spore print and Chicon Nindo syringe- they have been resisting germinating on ME agar.

yup, what i did was shot a few drops of the lc onto agar and when it colonized i opened it and inspected..it smelled great:) and mary my chicon nindo print wouldnt germinate on agar so i dropped some in lc and im still waiting for the result...best of luck..and supalemon pan goliath ending up being galindoi..I think thats the best disappointment ever haha...I have a buddy sending me goliath and if all goes well i can save a few cc's for ya..ill keep you in mind

so i have some fine looking plates of pan. cambo. after 4 transfers from spores, and I am planning my next step and want some input.

I am trying to use materials i already have on hand, so let me know if this plan seems legit.

make substrate of chopped straw, BRF, Verm & hydrate with water & coffee, based on Pasty's invitro straw tek.

I will load that 2" deep, into quart pp5 trays like these

Sterilize those for 90min.  Make LI based on munch's tek.

Innocculate, grow out, consolidate, case with ??, then fruit in SGFC.

Thoughts?

it should work so long as you inoculate in a glove box or VERY cleanly...case with regular peat/verm and balance ph..case 1/8 to 1/4 inch..the way im doing pans now is to colonize one quart of grain spawn..then i take two half gallon jars..mix up a sub of soaked straw, a couple cups of finely ground manure, coir, gypsum, and add dry verm until moisture is right. Pc those for 2 hours. then do a grain to grain style tranfer in a glove box to those half gallons of substrate..half quart of grain spawn to each jar..works like a charm..pans will fruit on straw alone so i think youre recipe should work just fine..keep it clean clean clean..

thanks.  i wouldn't consider inoculating anywhere but my SAB, and try to use the best sterile technique possible, just like i do with agar work.

Should i put some coir in the sub recipe?  i have plenty.

When you say balance pH of casing, what pH are you balancing to, and what do you use?

it wouldnt hurt to put a little in there, do you have any manure?? anything will work right now im using alpaca turds ground up in a blender..if not you should be ok because pans will fruit off straight straw i guess, never done it myself but thats what stamets says. use hydrated lime, also known as garden lime because peat can be acidic..you want it between 6.5 and 8..search casing recipes on here and youll find it for sure, you can even google search it..

i don't have any manure on hand.  I'm sure i could track some down without too much effort, but don't really feel like it.

Thanks for the advice!  Need to research pan casing while this stuff colonizes.

Interesting plan, I'll follow the thread.
Regardless of how it goes it will add to our knowledge base on growing Pans.
I'm going to be doing some similar in-vitro grows with Cambo and hopefully Chicon Nindo.

Only thing I'd add to that is to try a tray with a complex manure based sub as well, side by side.

Although I should probably follow that advice, I am probably going to skip it this time.

(Assuming I get some fruits) I will clone a fruit to save a nice fruiting culture, and then maybe start to mess with poo.

Is the chicon nindo you plan to grow the Psilocybe mexicana chincon nindo?  If so, it is by far my favorite stone producer.  I just harvested 6 quarts, and averaged 160g wet per qt jar.  After I harvest I bury the colonized oats on the side of my yard in an un-maintained grassy area..  I have never tried to fruit them in a controlled grow, may do that next time, but right now I am swimming in stones, so that culture will stay in the fridge for a while....

Yes, I think its this one: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15932868/fpart/1/vc/1
I haven't done anything with stone production before- There's plenty I have not yet done- stone production, outdoor grows... I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. I hope to get back to doing some Pan grows in a few months, meanwhile i'm monitoring other peoples work.

I had good luck with Chicon Nindo in grain jars also but I aborted the grow after spawning last winter cuz my cow poo was too dense & went anaerobic.
