No pan growth is more wispy if you chose the right growth. Wispy and fast is what you want. Solid white is usually not good growth.

Here y’all go another gut check To me for y’all lol These bitches can be assholes lol That’s what makes the big difference in growing species though being able to pull these guys off consistently year around is fucking tricky. Cubes run back burner like clock work no problem. I do have several other good looking trays to replace this bad one with tho. And that is the key! Here is a healthy brooksville tray just starting to pin to replace the trich tray (also brooksville)

i'm a tad worried about 2 of my trays. after i pasteurized my sub and let it sit for about a week before i spawned, 2 sub jars smelled funny. not like you would imagine manure and straw to smell like. the other sub jar smelled exactly how i would have imagined it would smell like.
i spawned on friday and all 3 trays look good. just about done colonizing. the funky smell went away after a day or so. i'm chalking the funny smell up to the substrate needing to breathe a little? about to case on thursday. they look done but i wanted to give them today to ensure they're 100% and tomorrow to consolidate, then case the day after. 🤞

If your Spawn is healthy usually the problem I run into if any at bulking is my bulk is a little too wet just a little too much moisture early on will smother out your culture. you want to keep it just hydrated enough that it will fully colonized then once you case you can start letting it take on more water

that makes sense. mine was probably real close to field capacity. a drop maybe 2 would form if a handful of sub was squeezed. all 3 trays are done colonizing so i'll be casing in 2 days 🤞

Two jars I have going with Peace River (left, unshaken) and Estero (right, shaken 2 days ago) on Fonio Millet. I might risk G2G the Estero one. the Peace River looks a little dense maybe ?

The Fonio Millet seems to work very well as spawn. The super small size gives so many inoculation points. I have my first pan bulk running with it and it colonizes very fast and is now in consolidation. I would like to post photos, but I'm afraid to open the lid and disturb it - will do when I case it on the weekend.
A question:
In your tutorials JCM and Jake you mentioned to leave pasteurized bulk for a couple days after pasteurization. I did that and it seemed to work very well so far.
Would you recommend the same for pasteurized casing or do you use that right after it cooled ?

Hi JCM, thank you for the quick reply !
You mean you freeze them for future use ? So that you just thaw them when you need some ?

I took a tip from the JOC tek to let my bulk sit out for a couple days to let all those good microbes build sometimes for 4-5 before refrigerating or freezing for long term. I used to use it right outa pasteurization and kept getting contams like every ten trays but since I started to let it sit (and changing my pasteurization technique as well) I haven’t had a tray go funky since. A lot of that was lost likely changing my past. technique but I also feel just as much is owed to letting those microbes build before refrigerating or using it at all.

Can you explain what did you change in pasteurization technique? Summer showed that I should to changу mine)

What foggers does everyone use? This fucking stupid air compressor is loud as shit and now that I'm hosting shit on a weekly basis I can't have this stupid thing running without it vibrating the absolute fuck out of everything. I live in a frozen wasteland so the garage isn't an option. Shit gets 30 below where I live

I use a reptile fogger, it’s silent.

I started letting my pasteurized sub sit a few days too and it’s been perfect. It smells disgusting compared to normal though I thought for sure it would go bad the first time I did it.

How big of a chamber do you have aka? I'm trying to keep it relatively small and don't want to go overboard, but, I do have this exhaust fan on this cabinet. So I was thinking to increase fae I was gonna rig it up to a chamber and have it run in cycles to draw out the old air and bring in some fresh

I just use an underbed tub with plastic over it. This pic I’ve got two shoeboxes in there with a jar to hold the sheeting up. All my stuff has been super simple low tech.

One of my next projects is gonna be ditching the shoeboxes and just running the whole underbed. It would be a ton of pans if it worked out.

Myc_Hunt I use a tub with an ultra sonic mister there are lots of vids out there of people making them. I use it in combo with a ‘Jartha’ type setup. https://youtu.be/PHpCo_ZFgfE

Cool under the bed set up Aka! I have a bit more space and basically built a small walk in closet in the corner of my garage.
