They didn’t abort. They start out almost charcoal black and as the mature they lighten up to a pale tan. 🤷♂️

This is the color they turn when mature. I’m noticing that the stipes are fairly grey also.

My Cyan clone is colonizing the grain extremely slowly. They really love high temps.

Adas my Pan cy clone was super slow on grain too (took nearly 4 weeks) but then when I mixed it with the bulk it went off, fully colonized in 5 days.

What is your time interval for pasteurization / sterilization for bigger bulk than average guys? Why I'm asking. Had four fails in a row during the summer on very last stage of manure\verm colonization using 2h pasteurization. Which is absolutely crazy rate pointing to systematic problem. All sources - petrie's, LC's, jar's were clean and good with low fail rate.
I start thinking why it stop working for me and realize that I didn't run such a big projects before. It's x3 by volume compare to previous projects so I need to run my filled to the top 23qt Presto two times.
I think for that amount 2h pasteurization simply not enough and decide to do 4h sterilization this time. But by the will of fate sealing ring on my Presto has crocked, so I can't run it for a few weeks before new ring arrive. So my plan for today is to run pasteurization again but for 8-12h. What do you think of all this, probable?

I pasteurize in an “Instant Pot” at 167 degrees for 3hrs on “sous vide” mode. It doesn’t start the timer until it’s fully up to temp so the 3hr cook time takes like 5hrs from heat up to cool down. One important thing I’ve learned is to make sure not to fill the jars completely full. When the jars are loaded in the pot the water level should be above the top of the bulk sub so the heat from the water can penetrate (air temp alone inside the pot will not reach pasteurizing temp)

I put my crockpot on 8 hour when doing my Pan substrate.
How come most older teks say pasteurize for 1-1.5 hour and we have a lot of success doing several more hours?

I think there was some confusion about the difference between going over temperature and Going over time restraints. there were some who thought that you would begin to partially sterilize your substrate If you ran for more than a few hours which is not necessarily true. Now if you exceed temperature parameters you will do this however the pasteurization of most things happens Over the course of eight hours at least. It takes several hours for the substrate to reach a core temperature of 162 Fahrenheit anyway, I ran it on for 12 hours one time after getting frustrated with how long it was taking to reach core temperature and everything worked out fine and I’ve done it that way ever since.

Yeah I always thought it needed to hit around 160 for a couple hours to kill off some of the bad bacteria, but you could let it go as long as you want if it stays in the right temperature window.
