Hi, Pan lovers found again Pans in my vegetable greenhouse last time I thought they were cyan but now air start to be less dry and finally they look more like Pan bispo phenotype i didn’t take time to check under microscope yet, but it’s really fun to find those babies in my garden during summer and in few weeks I hope for woodlovers as last year in other place of the garden, nature with a little help is very generous!!

Have a nice day everyone!

My old spore print revival goes into a second round, trying activated charcoal now. Did not germinate on normal agar in 10 days, so I suppose that wont work. Maybe the charcoal helps.
I am trying to revive a 13+ year old Pan print. Not expecting much, but for the sake of experiment.
Also have Pan Cyan Alabama print that won't germinate which is less than 2 years old.
What are the oldest print you guys have been able to work with ?
Estero and Sandoz germinated fine and are now transferred. Waiting for peace river to germinate, but it only has been 48 hours.

I've had no trouble germinating 10 year old cube prints but many of the exotics can be difficult after a couple of years, or even 1 year. How they're stored is a big factor as well. Charcoal is often recommended to help old spores but ime I've found charcoal in agar seems to impair growth quality.

How are these looking? After failing many times this looks better to me at least. Do I need to spawn them soon or let them sit for longer? They are so light and wispy compared to cubes I can tell if they need more time or not.

You need to let them sit till there fully colonized. Looks very wet in there which may be slowing it down, just guessing. They may still colonize but it will take longer.

Every single jar of pans I do seems to do that. Both the LC jars and the straight whole plate jars. They go for a week or 2 then start to look wet on the empty part of the jars. I even bought some over priced rye instead of my normal oats for this round to see if I could get different results. So frustrated with them.

bacterial is what that looks and sounds like heres what my jars look like
are u using spores to knock up the jars?? cuz u really need to be using agar especially with pans. cuz thats way too long all if my qt size jars will be 100% colonized in 7 days. if you are using spores from a syringe stop and use agar first. make sure you select the right type of growth. there is pics of what u want and examples in the link in my sig

I advocate spore to grains on my shrimp boats. Those jars are way too wet fix your technique watch RR lets grow mushrooms grain prep video and compare what you do.

Not particularly, the bottom one is looking alright.
I took them both almost as soon as I had germination so it might’ve took them a min to recover.

Second flush central Florida. Tore up the casing pretty good when harvesting the first flush. Using scissors from now on.
I feel like it’s a safer bet doing multi-spore cultures instead of hunting for the correct isolate. That type of work takes dedication and is great if that’s what your looking for, a culture that produces what you want it to. But I’ve been doing multi-spore cultures and getting results that I’m ok with. Maybe when I find a strain I like I’ll hunt iso.

I am using plates with 9 plus transfers. Plates look uniform and flat. I do RR grain prep for rye. My oats have never have an issue with cubes or panellus stipticus. I even stopped doing LC and switched to whole plates for most of my pan jars. I will keep trying. Going to figure this out one month lol.

I’ve noticed pans like grain a little on the dry side.

i wouldnt b using whole plates the closer to the edges u go the higher the chances of contams post pics of your plates. also it shouldnt b taking u 9 transfers to get on grain. a nice pretty plate dont mean shit. i never ever ever take a culture out past t3 im usually on grain with my t1 or 2 if its taking u that long your clearly not selecting good clean growth or u have other issues going on. pics of plates will help.

Complete waste of time to take plates out that far. I'm using T1's or T2's. You should be looking for something that is fast moving and using it ASAP. You want to keep the momentum going. Sectoring a bunch of times makes things worse, not better.
