Fair enough good reasons.. i am never in too much of a rush.. my first set of plates went into the fridge last week cause i don't feel like making more right now.

ms is ms tho its all a gamble with spores no matter what. but there is far too many ppl that just are what i like to refer to as agar addicts. seems they would rather play on agar for months on end trying to get a pretty perfectly round plate or what they think is a monoculture. before doing anything with it.
im the exact opposite i want the fastest way to a clone possible and i never take a ms culture out past t2 or t3 since im after a clone i wanna get on grain and get to fruiting shit out out while i have the widest selection of genetics as possible. when your making all those transfers before even fruiting anything out you could just be throwing away your best shit without even knowing it. just cuz its pretty and round on a plate dont mean its worth a fuck. you wont knkw til u fruit it. ive had plenty of picture perfect beautiful plates only to give the saddest most fucked up garbage fruits possible. id rather just get fruiting get my clones then start transfering and fruiting out each transfer while making masters of each one to go back to incase its a good one. and that cycle will repeat til im left with tbe absolute best culture that i can get out if it. it all just depends on how long u wanna spend on it. but ive found eventually ul get it down to where it wasnt as good as the previous cuz somethin was lost so to say on the newest transfer so thats when id go back to the one before it that was killer and just leave it alone
this is just a brief description of what il do when working with clones to get a culture for keeping long term

Wow you guys seem to take it very seriously with the agar. I always place spores on 1 single plate, let it grow out nicely and go from there. I rarely even streak the spores, usually just leave them in a pile, lol.
It works fine for me is what I can say.

but really tho i dont care one bit what my plates look like as long as they are clean, fast and made up of the correct type of growth known for being great fruiters. but even then its still a gamble ya just gtta fruit it👍😃

You ever cloned a pin from a plate and tried to fruit that?

Agar is everything start with good stuff to have the best chances of a good grow
For me.. doing 1 plate would take the same time as doing 16 (pretty much) so.. might as well do more.
My last 8.. 5 are great 2 are meh.. 1 is fucked with black death in it.

Nice thanks for the input. I have a bunch of prints so I'm probably going to take jcm4620's approach on this grow, then try a different approach next time round. I'm by no means aiming for a 'perfect plate' and am far more interested in the fruiting phase than playing microbiologist. But I have to admit that someone produce some very sexy looking plates!

Yeah plate pins are awesome. Easiest clone you’ll ever get, especially with pans.

I agree. But usually I fruit early anyway since the mycelium looks good from the get-go. Like my Pan Cyan Florida - first transfer and the mycelium already looked uniform, nearly no sectoring. May as well fruit it right away I did and it performs great. Bisporus is different, but no matter how much you transfer that (or even clone), the growth is not gonna look too good or uniform.
I do as few plates as possible, simply because I would hate wasting my petris and I don't like prepping and sterilizing agar and this whole ordeal. But my success rate is good enough so that I don't need to.

I usually only do 1 xfer so i get it.. btw... what tek are you using for agar? agar is about the fastest thing i do in shrooms.. bout 30 mins from start to pc'd.

I usually like to let germ plates grow out a little bit to where you can see actual growth but there’s a small window before they all overlap.

If I’m just trying to fruit ASAP then I’ll grab the first visible spot though. I’ve made lcs like two days after streaking the plate before.

30 mins is my total sterilizing time, lol (I get weird contams when I do 25 mins so I upped it). I measure out my grain water and agar, mix them, boil them until everything dissolved and then I pour the plates. I wrap the glass ones in plastic wrap (according to THIS amazing TEK), load the PC and get it runnin.

i like to let mine grow enough to see how it grows. when i see what i'm looking for, i will isolate it to another plate. like jcm, i rarely go passed t2 cause if it's taking that long, it might not be worth the resources to fruit it.

Getting a lot of cracking in the caps in the new tub. Still have some dialing in to do although the damage is already done. At least it looks like I’ll get some good fruits
