Do you guys think it would be ok to use wheat bran for Pan-cakes? I mean I suppose it’s just like any other supplement.

Sorry this is delayed, I've been fighting off a mad bout of depression that's trying to kill my mycology hobby. Here's 4 plates I think look decent.

Thanks Adas, me too. This shit will kill me one day, just not today or anytime soon, but one day.
These are T2, placed into a cool environment after transfers and this is 5 days worth of growth which is why they're limited. Obviously I want to put the entire plates to grain but will probably cut out parts because I don't trust myself and shitty agar work. I can't get the fucking transfers off my scalpel without using a lid or something. Which prompts a question I'm gonna ask in the agar envy thread.

Dont lose hope my friend. Mushrooms are the best for issues like this.
I personally get agar off the scalpel by tapping the scalpel on the rim of the jar. Works everytime.

I've tried that and have resorted to using the lid to scrape it off which gives me anxiety beyond belief. But I hate having my lids off, even if it is inside an sab, sooo... I guess ill just keep trying. Ive probably completed less than 50 transfers in my career so I guess it will come with practice

heres what id do myc. they look pretty decent for the most part but i dont like that extremely light see thru growth just cuz thats the stuff i have had issues with not recovering in the past. but it could just be from being cold so id still take from some of them and see what they look like at regular room temp. but if these were mine id focus more on the areas marked but would still take a few from all around just to see what everything looks like at room temp

Alright, so pour more plates and germinate at temp? Then put to grain? Or should I pull these and put them to grain?

i wouldnt put those to grain personally but thats up to u. the 1st and the 3d u prolly could but i still wouldnt if they were mine as i like to at least have a strong looking culture all the way around. it dont matter if it aint totally a perfect circle ir anything but i at least want strong growth. heres just a few examples of what i look for when going to grain

Hi! This is my second time trying to grow pan cyans. I searched everywhere and couldn't find anyone else who tried this (although read in a couple of places that popcorn could substitute rye grains in pretty much any use case), but I'm using popcorn, pasteurized manure and verm.
The only 'jar' (out of 5 I inoculated) that even showed any colonization after 10 days was this one, which is the least substrate-filled and that I sterilized in the oven (rest was PC'd). I'm just wondering if it's actual pan cyan mycelium or just cobweb/some other contam. Can someone help me out?

Thanks in advance!

Psilo, are you putting poo in your jars? I believe you do pan jars just like cubes, which in my case is straight RGS... or for you.. popcorn kernels.. no extras..

Thank you guys for the responses! I'll check out the teks and start over with the rest of the jars and see if this one is salvageable then, cause it doesn't look like mold to me...
I'd be very grateful if someone could confirm this!
I was actually following a modified version of MacMerdin's Simple Pan-Cakes, figured I'd try with popcorn, but as I've recently read, there's really no need to colonize them on manure, it should only be necessary when fruiting, right?

Well. if you are doing cakes that's kind of all in 1.. you colonize and fruit the same medium..
The way we normally do it is do agar in plates.. then jars of grain til it's colonized then mix in a tray/tub with your substrate (for pans it looks like poo/straw is the way to go)
Cakes are a different thing.
