i got actual loops also but i honestly prefer my sterile swab packs. i bought 2 boxes of 200 for 10$ each and that was over 2 yrs ago and i still have almost a whole box left. i even gave several away these will last me at least another year. plus i just prefer the length and the feel of the firm tip on the agar. i cant stand regular soft q tips but the firm 6 inch ones with the wooden stick i like better than the loop

I love loops. Especially for doing that serial streaking pattern i like

Gives you tons of colonies to choose from, progressively cleaner colonies,  and progressively less strain groupings per colony (gif in my sig)

Also you can use loops for loading slants,  swabs not so much

Even when i use a swab (like pe spore swab), i still use a loop. I just do the first zone with the swab then use the loop for the other 3 zones

Nothing wrong with doin it the swab way though, i just like the advantages of the loop

I seem to be the only one who just drops the spores on to agar from print with a sterile tool.. which, btw, works pretry good

Do i need to get loops? Will that be even more clean?

That works fine, but spreading/streaking helps them not be all lumped together. Loops are better suited to streaking either a liquid culture or spore solution, while a sterile swab works well for streaking from a dry print. Clean is pretty straightforward in this hobby. There are degrees of cleanliness and sterility, sure, but all we typically know or care about is a binary yes/no. Either your process was clean enough, or it wasn't. If you're not having recurrent contam issues I wouldn't worry about it.

These are both T2 plates from LTC's Rainbow Eucalyptus. Do these look alright to inoculate some LC?

What a coincidence. I just put spores to agar for the first time, and all I did was scrape a bit of the print loose with a flamed Exacto blade, then drop them onto the agar surface. Figured I could add a little distilled water later if it was necessary.

Depends what you are trying to do

I mostly use loop for spore prints. Heat loop, cool in agar, scrape spores, streak section 1, flame, streak section 2,  flame, repeat

Swab works fine too tho, its just waaaay more strain groupings per colony (not necessarily a bad thing). Streaking w a loop is really handy with a dirty print

jcm, these jambo's are insane at day 3.

Very aggressive. This isn't overlay. The myc actually looks really nice
and fluffy. I've never really had this before so I have no idea what's
going to happen.

Is the miniature size thought to be more genetic or environmental? I'm noticing the "second flush" on the jambos are behaving differently based on how saturated I have the substrate. The more saturated produced smaller dense fruits, whereas the dried ones produced taller ones. One tray that was producing tall ones now appears to be producing mini-looking ones, and I think it might have to do with the amount of moisture in the substrate. Just a theory based on my limited experience.

Anyone else have ideas as to how the same tray can go from producing tall ones to minis?

Does anyone know what "rain euc" or "rain eue" might be?  I got a print labeled that, but I don't know who sent it.  I don't know what it is, but it looks like a pan cyan print of some sort.

Asura it looks like you are using coco coir in your casing.  That's exactly what the mycelium looks like when you use coco coir in cubensis for example:

Rainbow eucalyptus. I just got that too.

My wild coast flushes got drastically shorter each one too.
