Planted some sketchy looking tropicalis spawn in this spot in the yard. Looks like it’s doing ok now

Nah that jar is just ms wild coast, the clone was the jams I still haven’t run it I gotta dig the plate out.
Pan myc doesn’t seem to do well if you let it sit after 100. Idk if it was totally clean anyway cuz there’s a ton of what looks like metabolite in the bottom.
Cube myc looks fine to me but pans definitely get a greasy look if you leave them too long.

Hey Jake is that Africa strain you have a wood loving pan? I had just read something from the captain about him working on this wood loving pan strain from africa. If so that’s pretty interesting stuff. Combing my too favorite types of mushrooms there

I have looked everywhere in my search history and can’t find it now but I know what it said because I had to read it twice because I thought it was so cool. It was in an old grow log of gymnopilus and he said he had been working on a new woodloving pan from Africa and he was having trouble with it because all the fruits would abort before they could ever drop spores. I looked through so many grow logs today I can’t find it now

I asked jcm but id like yalls perspectives as well
i have like 8 pan clones i want to test
Yall prefer g2g over lc right?
How do you save a culture before you test it? Im thinkin maybe make slants at the same time i put them to grain? (Thats what i usually do when pheno huntin, but ive had bad luck w pans on slants long term)
Alternatively make an lc of each and just save the lc after growin each out?
What approach would yall take for testing these cultures? Make lc of each, or slant and a2g?

I would just transfer each one to a new dish and use the remainder to inoculate your jars, make sure they’re identified so you know which grow corresponds with which dish, As for long-term storage I’ve heard people say they’ve had good luck in the refrigerator I’ve never really put that to the test I always just continually transfer cultures I like to new dishes every time I use them to inoculate my jars poor performers are scratched

yeah thats what i usually do w other varieties, was just curious to hear how yall do it. i started making short term slants since they take up less space when dealing with a TON of cultures
i use a big roll of 1000 numbers on labels to quickly assign each culture a numeric id, then write that on all projects involving that culture
i was just thinking about switching my pan projects over to LC rather than grainspawn, and figured that might be good way to store a small amount of cultures for reference
Are yall only testing isolates /nonsectoring cultures? Bc otherwise wouldnt you potentially not have the same sectors/strain groupings on the new plate vs the a2g? This is one thing that intrigues me about lc (being able to keep all strain groupings)
how old are your oldest pan cultures? do they get weird with age?
Also if you are testing a culture (or many) do you run smaller trays or fullsize?

my oldest pan cultures are my 3 jam clone cultures and theh are around 10 months now. i basicly do what jake said but i store mine in slants wrapped in paper towels placed inside an insulated padded cooler/lunchbox in a fridge that is only for myco shit with a temp set at 42 deg. i only open the fridge as needed and try not to do it too much as temp swings will cause condensation on the plates and the slants.
all my tissue clone plates will have transfers made from them and each one fruited out seperately. the good performers get slanted the not so good go in the trash. i pay no attention to sectoring or even radial growth patterns. i only care about performance

c10 - I saw Blue Helix write that he stores LCs for years in the fridge. Pretty sure he was talking about pans. Those little vacutainer vials he likes seem like an efficient use of space for a small amount.
jcm - do I remember reading that those pans you recently sent out are cambos? Not cyans as labelled? Just want to make sure I have the right thing on there, break that particular chain of misinformation
I should be completing and testing my fruiting chamber over the next couple of weeks, after that I'll start trying to germinate, and no doubt start pestering you all with questions about stupid shit!
Fruiting chamber question: mine's going to be jcm-style, with an air pump blowing through air stones in heated water. Is this going to cause mad condensation everywhere in my room? Warm saturated air in a smallish room that's pretty consistently at 75 °F and 50% RH has me a little bit worried that shit will be dripping everywhere.
