back up

That’s looks good to me jcm still thick
I’m the spots it came up still looks nice. I think my biggest problem when it came to jams was I thought I was trying to beat the overlay be casing when before it got too thick then after reading a post from blue helix that said your supposed to let it colonize completely before casing and seeing pictures I now think that I was casing too soon all those times. I went through that whole print you sent with countless trays and I think I was casing too soon.

I fucked up. There is trich in the tray. Shiiit!

As you can see, the pins around the contam area turned black and said good bye.

What can I do with the tray now? Just let it sit in the FC? Throw it out imediatelly? I'll have to clean the martha anyway before putting the new batch into it, right?

I want to eat those little survivors... I want to have that pan-trip.

What do you people think? Would you eat thenm? Or will I grow a third arm on my back or a penis on my forehead and die?

Edit:

I bet this is due to mixing unpasteurized vermiculite with the pre-pasteurized casing soil that I had bought.

I’d pull them all now. It spreads super fast on pan trays and eats the pins way faster than cubes.

My first one I picked around the mold just to make sure I had enough to dose too lol. No problems.

It was like a tiny dot of mold I left one night hoping the pins would grow more and the next morning it was all over.

And that's it:

I wonder if I should take them all at once... I'm quite experienced with cubes (6g dried and a little more). But judging from the info here, I'm a bit hesitant.

Finally a bit of success! It's looking like this will be my best flush of pans yet. Variety is wild coast. Can't wait to see these babies matured!

nice👍👍 i gtta admit im super shocked that you dont have overlay city goin on with using straw as your casing. straw seems to equal steroids for my pans and they colonize the fuck out of it fast as shit. not to mention that i take care to make sure i cover every piece of straw i see when im casing my trays cuz i have also found that airborne mold spores tend to land and germinate and spread fast as fuck on my exposed straw. im just wondering if any of you other straw containing substrate users also have experienced this. and also what are you doing to prep your straw and are you also using it in your substrate??

This is outside on my porch where it gets constant FAE and a coastal Tropical climate. My conditions outside are perfect. I explained a little in my dm response, but the straw I use for the casing is unsoaked and unpasteurized. Just straight out of the mulched bag and thrown on the block dry. Then I spray it down well so it absorbs a little water to stay damp. I think this way the mycelium doesn't eat the straw as readily and it works like a casing layer. The only issue I've been having is after a while on the cube pool some little spots start to go blackish and rot, but I just carefully pick it out and add a little fresh dry straw. I've only had to do this twice though, nothing that's an actual issue. And because of the constant FAE of being outside with no sort of cover they straw just doesn't mold, at least as far as I've seen. If I cover them for more than a day or 2 cobweb starts to take hold, but uncovering makes it disappear really quick.

Also yes theres straw in the sub, but that was lime pasteurized for 18hrs. So it was soaked to the core as well. The sub was the lime pasteurized straw, black kow and a 3lb spawn bag that was a mix of oats/straw/verm/black kow. Process went:

A2g 7/2 > mix 7/7 > mix 7/12 > spawn 7/14 in layers (top and bottom being straw with spawn and black kow between every layer) > first pins noticed yesterday morning so cased with dry unpasteurized straw 7/21, i should have done it a few days ago and I think i wouldn't have so many side fruits. I have a 2nd tray that's Jamaica variety just about where i think i should do the casing. I'll probably hit it with the dry straw tomorrow.

Theres still parts of the manure in the sub that aren't fully colonized so I bet the next true flush with be crazy.

Here I grow those are thick. That’s outdoor right? I’ve got five shoeboxes of wild coast going, two should be pinning anytime.

Just a heads up for anybody new using a fogger, don’t let the hose bend down and then up again. I just came back to half dried trays and thought I had set the fog too low but when it kicked on nothing came out. Soon as I picked up the hose some water poured out and then the fog came back.

Didn’t think about condensation collecting in the bend and blocking it up.

Yeah its outside and pans grow naturally here. Theres a few in there that look like they'll be the biggest I've ever seen personally 😍😍 I'm super excited lol, some of them are as big as some dwarf cube varieties I've grown.

Check out this fookin fatboy 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Also, here's the Jamaica tray I'll most likely case tmrw. It definitely does rip through the lime pasteurized straw.

I saw someone, I think it was mushboy last week earn the title before I headed out. But I'm super glad jcm got one too, I've been following his unique setup for pans for a few months and thought the guy was willing to put himself out there with an idea that actually works and makes growing pans feasible for someone like me that isn't in the subtropics or with the space for a big ole tent.
