If this happens consistently, I would wing it and sterilize the casing instead of pasteurize (or at least boil).

Damn man just like when my in-laws called on a Wednesday and said they’d be here that weekend to stay. Had to move everything in a storage closet right after the first pan pinset I had in like two months

Word, I have some more sub colonizing I can try that with in a couple days or so. Doesn't sterilization make it easier for bacteria to colonize the casing layer as opposed to pasteurization though? Also, should I get rid of any trays I see green on now? My gut tells me yes. Thanks for the help.

Idk, I haven't had good success with pasteurized casings. Also, Pans are fast enough colonizers to colonize a thin casing before anything else does (bacteria are not of concern here).
I've gotten some fruits from even moldy casings, but it's bad practice and you should prolly throw them out.

id stay away from that rice and spore syringes. u really should be usuing agar im willing to bet thats a big part of your problem and sterilizing ur casing is a terrible idea thats just asking for green

Ok word. Yeah it's probably best to do that before mold spores start sticking to stuff. I've got a compost pile I throw contaminated spawn or substrate in sometimes, and once in awhile stuff fruits there. Maybe they'll have better luck there.
As for syringe vs. agar, luckily I've got tons of clean mycelium on agar as well as LC in case this experiment failed

Adas, so what do you so if not pasterurizing the casing if you were to use one?

Boiling it seems to be better in my case Pasteurizing tends to give me this pink-ish mold. Or use completely anorganic casing. For some reason my best Bisporus pinsets were always with Clay casing. Which is what I'm working with in my current Bisporus tray.
Also in the outdoors the Bisporus pins were most abundant under a piece of clay.

Adas, could you elaborate on what you mean by boiling? Like what steps that entails? When I pasteurize, I follow RR's technique from the video (water is boiling for a bit but once I get to 150 farenheit inside one of the jars I turn off the heat and watch the temp to make sure it stays between 140-160)

OK so I’m talking to Alan now he needs a total of 96 samples to send in to get his discount so he’s putting the last ones together now I’ll go ahead and PCR the pan Africa when it comes up here in a few days so will get its results back with everything else

The pans in my signature I sterilized the sub then spawned in my SAB and wrapped it in cling til it was colonized. I’ve done that a few times with no problems.
They move so stupidly fast there no time for anything else to get going anyway. I mean within 36 hours it’s already mostly white with myc.

Nice looking tall fruits there! Cambocyan
When you guys talk about 'peat moss' is that the kind also known as 'spagnum'?
Ordered a whole bunch of cheap goodies today that should together become an automated pan fc one day soon. Hopefully my Jake/JCM inspired modded tub design is gonna be any good. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
