Normally I would agree, but it's mushroom casing soil from one of our sponsors. As said, ph is right and it's peat moss.

WOW that's awesome! Do you notice any size difference compared to fruits grown indoors?

3/4 trays pinning I. The new tent so it is working at least. Nothing close to perfect because one tray got a little flooded last night with the temp drop and aborted a lot of the pins but the another started pinning today.

This isn't Pan myc, is it

none of my plates that got swiped with spores have germinated anything close to myc except for that one but I cant quite tell if the tinge of green is the agar (It caramelised and to be honest I'm not using green colouring anymore for colour coding)

That back one is gonna be a monster.
Was there any ever clarification with cinctulus potency? A lot of the older stuff I read people weren’t sure if it was weak or if people were picking inactive pans that commonly grew next to it.

I don't have any plates handy atm otherwise I'd totally clone one. I'll probably see a few more flushes especially if it keeps raining

They're larger and also seem to have gotten more of the darker variety fruits than from indoors. They're hygrophanous so that might have something to do with it. Even the white fruits have that dark transparent outer ring on the cap (which can be seen clearly in the last picture). Also they seemed to develop a lot faster than indoors. Indoors pin->dropping spores was pretty slow, while outside they developed about as fast as cubes.
One difference from indoor is that this outdoor bed I used around 50% hardwood sawdust in the substrate (didn't use any when grown indoors)
I have some tampanensis outside as well and the situation is the complete opposite, tiniest tamp fruits I've ever seen. First time trying outdoor tamps but they're probably not getting enough light.

I agree but then again I'm not good at IDing. Looking at pictures olivaceous caps don't seem to open as much though and retain more of a conical shape into maturity. Many of these fruits developed into much flatter caps than any of the olivaceus pictures I see online. But otherwise they do look very similar.
I got some measurments. Caps are up to 4.5cm in diameter, and stipes around 6-7cm long. Stipes quickly bruise dark blue or black on handling. These smell like mushrooms, but noticeably don't have that almond smell that Pan cyans and tropicalis has. Forgot to mention that, thought it was kind of interesting. There's no "unique" scent with this species, it's just mushroom scent

Quagmire75 said: I have a bitter sweet update. I have my first pan fruits but it turns out that they are rhe sandose "midgets" that seemed to be circulating a while back. these are from the cambo sandose that had a clear ring around the mycelium and was slow on grain. I tossed like 5 or 6 jars and found a couple of stragglers a few days later. Since I didn't have anything else going i decided give them a shot. I do have some wild coast coming up that seems much better so far. Honestly I'm pretty stoked even though they are runts, because I think I'm starting to get the tent dialed in. I'm getting there LoL
Can someone please sent me spores or culture of these so-called midgets? I don't believe they exist. What I think is going on is that people are using very high amounts of grain nowadays. I haven't been on this site much in the last 5 years, but when I left, no one seemed to be talking about midgets. Now everyone is acting like they are a thing. So something has changed, and I don't think it's the gene pool.
I never used over 15% per weight grain, and I have never seen a "midget" EVER - NOT ONCE in 20 YEARS. Now I see people using 4 to 10X that amount of grain, and suddenly there are these "midgets" everywhere. If there is such a thing as midgets, then I'd like someone to please show me a picture of one grown on manure without tons of grain (i.e. spawn) or in a natural setting.

So I've heard two new complaints with pan cyans. I heard the overlay issue, and I solved that one. I found a variety that overlaid like crazy, then I found out why: it was simply a matter of making sure the substrate is well-enough colonized before adding the casing to the tray or opening the substrate bags(both can several days of consolidation)
Now I am hearing about midgets, and I'd like to solve that one too. Can someone give me midget spores or a culture? Does this characteristic transfer in the spores? My hunch is that midgets are forming for the reason they do in wood-loving species - from using too much grain. It's become fashionable to suddenly use tons of grain spawn in pan cyans grows, but they did not evolve to consume that any more than wood-lovers did. They are a dung-loving mushroom, which is a secondary decomposer, not a grain-loving (primary decomposer).
So if someone will help me out to get a hold of these midgets, I'll pay all shipping and a bit for your time.
Thanks!

I found the midgets mostly appear in the heavily domesticated strains once I breathe in fresh genetics the dwarfism goes away first generation and spores from following generations also do not appear to carry the dwarf problem at least they haven’t presented it yet. I’ve done it with pan cam Sandoze & Jamaica (still waiting on Alan to send off pcr samples to know if the jam that’s been circulating is cyan or cam)

So you think it is inbreeding? That could be. I wasn't seeing them, but that was 5 to 10 years ago. Things do seem to have changed. Is this species (pan cyan) particularly susceptible to genetic damage or something? Someone told me they experience senescence fast too... the two could be related.
