Anyone have a thermometer with a probe you can leave in the bucket? It would be interesting to know how long it remains appropriately hot in there.

Great minds 👍👍👍
You could extend the heat in the bucket by preheating the coir and manure too.
Edit: also by doubling the amount you're pasteurizing. More mass will retain heat longer.

Well if I don’t shake it or anything it stays too hot to touch for like four hours so that should mostly pasteurize it I think. Especially if it’s only a quarter or third manure compost.
I’ve got a wild coast jar that’ll be finished tomorrow so I’ll find out.

You can probably test it in boiling water, depending on your elevation it should be within a couple degrees of 212

AKA, you gave me an idea but I'm not sure how well it would work. I was thinking of solar bleaching to pasteurize a bunch of substrate by placing straw, manure and coir into one of those thick black contractor trash bags and leaving it sit in the sun for a few days.

What is the better way to get the kind of growth you want on agar? Just put spores on a lot of plates and look for the desired growth or by transferring a lot?
With cubes I just grow out any non contaminated plates but I think that's not a good strategy with pans?

I would think spore dilution would be a huge help in getting the right myc. Although I’ve had so little germination on agar compared to other species that it might not be necessary.
Anyway my strategy has been to avoid the big thick tangled germ plates so I end up with just a few colonies on the plate which makes seeing what type of myc there is way easier.

Yes you guys are doing so good over here it's motivating. Been fighting even with the cubes lately so my confidence was way down again but now I think we're back on track. At least over all my sab work has improved a lot. Its fruiting I worry about

I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason I’m running anything else right now is so my confidence isn’t complete shit. If my pan method was down tight I think that’s all I would run

Same. I can't even fruit Cubes properly, I ask myself why do I even bother with pans at all? But that's me.. I like experimenting.

When I started my first Pan Pan grow. I had like 3 cubensis grows under my belt. Had more success with Pans than with cubensis lol
