I have been doing no soak no prep grain tek and I have to say I love it. I think I’ve lost one jar in the last 30-40 quarts and I believe that might have been from a questionable agar slice. The moisture is perfect after a couple days and NO popped grains at all when I use wheat berries although millet works great too. The time you save is amazing as well. I’m using wheat Berries and millet at the moment. My jars have been doing 100% in about 10-12 days using LC made with the biopsy method.

So this is the state of three trays two of which are wild pan cyans and one is sandose tray. The sandose has been in 4 days and the others three days. The sandose completely broke through the casing in two days so I recased it because it was saturating the surface too much without one. I made a joc tent and it’s working great. Fogger for 8 mins, fan cuts on after 4 and runs for another 4 after the fogger cuts off. It creates beads on the surface and wets the casing good before it starts to dry it with the evaporate cycle. And this runs every 10 mins. It’s probably fine but I just hoped I would start to see knotting after 4 days at least although I can’t remember ever really seeing knotting with other pan trays, only waking up one day and seeing first pins. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I can show you guys the tent I made later tonight. First tray is the sandose. Also have a small cinctulus tray in there I didn’t take a pic of. The other two are a gulf coast Florida pan I just call GCFL and another called gator. Pictures may look dry but I assure you they are good and soaked. During the wet cycle I worry that it’s too wet because water almost pools on the surface. Then the dry cycle drys it out but I’m worried that when it pins the fogger will kill them. Should I turn it down after pinning?

No them getting too dry as what will kill them they really have to be floating for it to be too wet raising the temperature a little bit helps especially until you get pins

The flow of air is very good in the tent also to where I’ve put my hygrometer in there and the humidity will go down during the evap cycle to about 30% and then go back to 100 during the wet cycle. So I’m wondering if I should run the humid cycle for longer.

The tent is completely air right so when the fan kicks on the sides of the tent suck in and it sucks all the air right out

Does anybody grow pans without manure?
I mean technically it can be done but has anybody seen a decent grow with just coir and spawn?
Did some digging and found this https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22290390/fpart/3/vc/1#22290390
I’m surprised more people don’t run coir. Unless this was a straight up miracle. He said it was over 200g wet per quart.
I’m gonna try one of these here soon, split the quart between coir and manure and compare.

This was my first pan grow. I had made the manure straw sub and a separate coir Verm gypsum little calcium carb and a handful of manure. Without thinking and while spawning other cube trays I grabbed the pan spawn and used the cube substrate. It colonized fast and fruited within a week I think. It was done with MS. Fruits were short and caps were ok. They did drop spores so I was happy about that. Got 4 dry grams

Also it got trich towards the end and I cut it out as soon as possible and it actually helped. I have been obsessed with growing pans ever since to the point I pretty much stopped growing everything else and I haven’t been able to do it again no matter what I do. I’ve tried just about every pan tek out there to the T and still can’t get anything. This time I think I might do it though. I’m praying because I’ve just been reeling out trays by the dozen trying and trying. This time I got some really good cultures of wild pans and I think there gonna break the funk.

Yes mostly coir with like 35% Verm and one handful of Charlie’s poultry manure. That’s what I use for cubes and it works like a charm for them. It was an accident to use it but it worked.

I've always wondered if you just couldn't isolate a strain that fruited well on coir. I've had some pretty shitty early grows on coir but I never cloned those fruits.

That would be nice wouldn’t it. Hey Asura I wanted to ask you something actually. Do you presoak your straw. I know in your tek when you make the grain/sub bags you keep dry ingredients so you can weight it and use 65% water. But when you do only sub do you presoak?

No I don't pre-soak at all. Doesn't sound like a bad idea, though. I remember after a couple of back to back bad runs, I was so pissed I was going lime pasteurize the straw before mixing up the sub

Phv & pan TX
You’ll notice some damage to the fruits in the PHV tray this is because when this Trey first went in I had just done a deep cleaning of the fogger and when I do that sometimes the flow gets stuck and the fogger won’t kick on when the timer sets so this through my cycles off for about 16 hours and that was enough to Throw off the timing on the pins I was able to bring them back but it slowed them down and now they suffer some water damage
Also in the pan tx Trey you’ll notice a patch of Trich, Ah the joys of pan cult in the summertime lol this is one of the very few situations where I would recommend doing something to contain the contam while you harvest your prints, I like to use a hand sanitizer gel but salt works well too,you just kind of coat over the contamination and it will buy you another 24 hours or so to harvest without risk of it spreading much
