Hey guys, so I'm getting some patches of bruising on a couple of the pools. I'm not really sure why, but I'm thinking maybe water dripping from the poly? This morning when I orginally found one I thought it was some kind of early contam mycel and sprayed it with peroxide pretty hard. Just one spot but I hope I didn't do much damage. Now I'm pretty positive its bruising. I don't think it will be an issue, but I'm just hoping it's not a sign of a more serious problem. Thoughts?

Seems to bruise pretty easily. Looks like it wants to be cased now, it’s losing the fluffy look.

Yeah I'm gonna case it first thing tmrw morning. I was waiting for the last few little patches of straw on top to colonize, but I think you're right. It's time, tomorrow is 1 week from spawn.

I just thought of it, idk how I'm gonna do the casing colonization period. You think I should just go straight to fruiting after casing?

That’s what I’ve done but I’ve still just fumbled through a couple grows so far.

With mine I cased and then went to fruiting and kept patching until it stopped colonizing the casing then pins would show up shortly.

Thanks-

The humidifier just runs all the time.
Those Chinese humidity controllers are best avoided IMO
They are not very accurate or calibrated and are more likely to destroy your grow than spawning to unpasteurised poo...

just for the record tho man peroxide isnt gnna help ya fight a contam in any way. usually if ur seein the green or other contams before first flush its cuz its in your spawn. and if thats the case by the time you see it its already too late cuz its all throughout the substrate by then. but is agree that its brusing. and id also case them asap and give them a very generous misting and put to fruit.

Yeah I know that peroxide won't help much. I just kinda freaked out and did something before I really thought. At the time I was thinking it may be cobweb that landed on something uncolonized on the surface. I forget to actually stop and think about shit before acting sometimes 🤣

Either way, I'm gonna case all 3 of them as soon as the sun comes up tmrw morning. I'm always up early as fuck anyway because of my stomach. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna put the wild coast and Jamaica in the tent I built, and keep the estero out with some added holes in the poly.

Well fuck, the tiny estero peppermint box I made with the left overs has got some mold on the casing.. I think it may actually be too humid in there.. but not that has me worried, and I didn't add lime to my casing mix...🤦‍♂️

I could use some help lol how much hydrated lime should I add to 5qt of casing mix? And can I add it after pasteurization? I made 2 bags and pasteurized them like Tuesday.

Edit: So I'm like 99.99% sure that it came from the Ps. Semperviva block I had in the tent with it... there were a few aborts I didn't pick off I guess that rotted and got moldy, it hadn't spread across the casing at all, it was just on the rotten abort.. but the estero box was literally right next to it 🤦‍♂️ ffs. I should probably still add lime to my casing mix if possible, but I don't think this would have happened before the 1st flush if I hadn't had a moldy block literally right next to it. Its outside so I just tore the casing off and some of the sub and recessed it with some peroxide spraying. It's probably a goner, but I stuck both of them on the other side of the house to die... hopefully I get some spores from the few semperviva fruits I have before the mold really takes over.

First plate is a wild pan cyan from Florida, the second is pan tropicalis and the third is cambo sandose. The sandose looked flat at first and now has started fluffing out a little which is good. The tropicalis (middle one) is still very flat and slow. Maybe I need to take more transfers because all these are T1s from spore but I’m just worried about the tropicalis because it seems like all the myc I’m getting from these spores is like this. Not really sure why. Anybody...?

Also the reason these transfers are so sloppy is because there t1.

For what it's worth, I gave up on tropicalis as I couldn't get anything from it. Not sure if it was because its a strain more fussy about conditions or if it's due to my own incompetence. I've had good results with two other strains.

Well, I lost the Estero pool to the green demon this morning 😭 I guess maybe I was wrong in my last post. It must have been in the spawn because the little peppermint box was estero too.. weird. Can the spawn look fully colonized and smell nice and clean but still have mold down hiding in it somewhere? Because I checked every jar for any signs of contam and smelled them all as I was spawning them. Everything seemed really good. Either way 🤷‍♂️ I figured I would lose 1 at the very least. That's why I did 3. We live and learn. Honestly I've been having issues lately and I think it might be my unmodded lids lol. I'm making new good ones today. I guess it's no surprise the other 2 pools that I used bags for the spawn are doing great still. They've fluffed out of the casing and are moving right along. Luckily the few spots of trich on the estero hadn't turned green at all yet. Still very dense white fluff. Hopefully it didn't get anything on the others.

I took the pool over to the side of the house and dumped it and worked it into a straw/manure pile. Hopefully something will still come of it.

Here's how the other two are looking this morning about 24hr after casing.

So far so good 🤞 now its pretty much just waiting to see if it works or molds. I'm gonna use the empty tub for a test with cubes soon now too.

That looks awesome man.

You can definitely have good looking spawn loaded with contams. I have an ape culture that I’m sorta convinced is a cube trich hybrid lol. It looks great on plates and grain but then 90% of the time goes bad after shaking. I finally after like six months got one flush out of it.

Yeah, the fact that the little estero box and the big estero pool both started showing mold within like 24 hrs of each other while the other 2 are fine is a good indicator of something in the spawn I guess. I've been trying to use shitty white Walmart lids unmodded and I think its causing a lot of issues..

Third flush and still going strong. I have a feeling I’ll be kicking these things out of the tent before they’re done producing.

1st flush yield was 28g from the 3 trays
2nd flush was 35g
3rd flush is looking a little less dense than the first, but not much.

Later today I’ll be Spawning two trays (diff cultures) of Cyan: South point, Hawaii as well as one of Cambo: sandose. hoping I’ll be able to case them next weekend.
