So I just pasteurized some manure for my first Pan grow. Do you need to put the spawn in the pasteurized sub in a SAB or under a flowhood? Or shouldn't matter much if you work quickly?

A.k.a said: Once a sub is colonized it doesn’t matter if it was sterilized or pasteurized right??
I’ve been sterilizing mine then spawning in the SAB and wrapping it with cling until it’s colonized. But I got mold after the first flush both times.
I’m thinking about pasteurizing my next one but if it won’t make a difference I don’t want to change what’s working.
I've been sterilizing in bags, spawning to the bag and then letting it grow out before I put to trays. I have two trays in the FC right now that have been 15 days with no mold. Shitty pin set, but no mold.
About to do some runs of pasteurized sub. Then it's back to LC for me.

Your manure quality makes such a huge, I’m working with some subpar stuff right now and it’s a night and day difference in my pen sets I am working on cooking a pile of poo now but it will be a few weeks before it’s optimal cutting straw pellets in with the straw and poo helps some when you have crappy manure. But running my exact same process with subpar Poo completely changes the end result

@Puduwoke, look at how all that hard work has paid off. Now, remember, everything you did, is what you have to do. But once you know how to do it...you know how You've paid the entrance fee. Congrats.
@jake, I've been thinking about poo quality. I'm getting it from Shroom Supply and it seems good quality, but I want to try some new sources.

Some of those are fat enough to use as pool noodles while you’re swimming.
Thanks guys, guess I’ll pasteurize a batch and see how it goes.
I went to the feed stores around town and they’re all out of straw. One lady told me it’s because of the lockdown there’s no money in wheat right now.
I’ve got access to a ton of hay, has anybody tried that? It’s still sorta green. There’s gotta be a way to leech nutrients out of it to make it better for cult.

I have used boiled Hay for Cubes before. But better would be to leech it a bit, as you say. I think it should work. It you have a practical way of cutting it up.

Hey Asura - definitely try some local sources - I’m sure there’s plenty (your in Texas right?)
I went to 4 different farmers with horses before I found something that I just knew was really good - as soon as I saw it I knew it was meant to be , love at first sight haha .
The first 3 farmers mixed random stuff in there piles - and/or didn’t turn their piles often . It was majorly wet and dry in some place and just inconsistent . That and the fact I felt like the people were eye balling me pretty hard ( not dressed like a hippie either )
I finally had good luck with going to the local equestrian center for a town near me .
The good stuff I finally found had tons of fire fang and when I picked it up it just crumbled.
I have it in a huge pile in my yard and when I use it - I take a small laundry basket with little slits (99c store )
And sift it - anything that doesn’t fall through - goes back into the pile or in the garden . There’s a few odd lumps here and there but it’s really paid off well - I had one of my best cubensis grows recently doing this - pulled nearly 2oz dry off every shoe box, and had those pan cyans kick ass with it .
I unfortunately left my manure uncovered and went camping - it rained real hard when I was gone ,it got soaked . The rains not letting up so I’m actually gonna fold that wet manure into the straw you see on the right side and just compost it all together .
I’m gonna go grab some new manure in the next day or two and I’ll send you some pics .
I’m in the process of composting all this wheat straw it right now - I’m trying to get it to a dirt like consistency in the end . I’ve been urinating on it daily (haha) and adding coffee water , and some lime to start - I may get some compost accelerator but haven’t decided - it’s starting to generate heat .
Here the laundry basket I use to sift - it works great .

This desert climate allows me to spray my manure pile and it dries out by the end of the day. Found a local farm with alpaca/hpoo. It's all grass, has no smell and aged 7-12 months.
I'm nervous about growing the pans with how dry it is, don't really have a good system yet for humidity. Just gonna spray and fan religiously.

Spraying pan pins doesn’t generally go well.
Might want to get a fogger or some perlite.

It doesn’t - I got away with it this last round -
I almost killed them once though- they had water spots and I thought they were goners .
Unless your evaporation system is really good - spraying will kill em for sure .
I think I only pulled through because I’ve been opening my tent - 5-6 times a day and blasting it with the fan for 5mins -
When they had water spots I did a full hour .

perlite aint gnna really b enough and misting pins will kill them. they r fucking picky as shit about that temp between 77-81 and that super high humidity i mean high to where if u were to have fruits in there they would bave beads of moisture on them just from the saturation of the air around them. but u also need super high fae and periods of evaporation and re saturation. its a fine line man and every environment seems to require different tweeking until you can get that good balance of everything. atleast based on my experience with them. i also tried just sgfc and hc with perlite and soon as they got an inch above the casing they would die. so if ur serious about growin them ur better off doing it rite from the begining by setting up a proper fc for them there is a link in my sig that has my method and links to jakes and asuras write ups as well

I was getting away with my pile getting wet / then drying by the next day - I’m in the PNW though and we have weeks of rain - it’s really been messing me up lately .
Even my grain - I usually cook a whole pc worth and dump it onto a sheet - let it sit over night and it’s perfect in the morning -
I almost lost a lot of grain this last run -
I did the my normal routine - checked the weather report- it was wrong - so it down poured on my grain for two days . I had to add a bunch of verm to Save it in the end. I don’t have a drying screen - I never made a new one after the last broke.

Urinating on it? That's not gonna end well. TOO many salts for mycelium! Unless you plan to let it leech by some rains. Then it could work.

For @oculodextro My Martha is dialed for cubensis and even with that I stil have to baby the fuckers .
I have 2 -140mm fans on the same circuit as a bathroom exhaust 2 on 10 off .
3 -spectrums of 6500k lights
Humidifier on ink bird at 97% , humidifier dial at 1/4 turn. Differential set to 3 for pins , then dialed back to 1.5 or 2 depending on temps .
Heater on ink bird temp - set at 82 with a little bit of swing .
4” ducting with heap filter and stuffed with poly fill .
4” duct fan and desk fan - had them laying around 24/6 on low in the closet to keep things fresh .
This set up is amazing with cubensis - I literally just have to add water ionce boxes are in tent .
With tha pans I still have to fan out or they don’t come. I literally see them grow after fanning - I’m sure you know .
Main point though was I was gonna mention my temps -
For @jcm4620
I got up to 95% for like 3 days while fruiting and still pulled canopies - I totally thought they were gonna die but some how they pulled through - and are giving a second flush .
I have no ac around but lucked out .
