I don’t know man I for real soaked that thing after you told me the first time and kept it soaked short of having pooling water a couple times. I also made the casing about 3/4 on this one too just to try something different

these are not the best pics i dont have many when it comes to showing the wetness of the casing but jake has a lot of good ones maybe h can look up some of his as well. but atleast on these you can tell the casing is rather wet just by looking at it

My camera really sucks on this phone in any photo I ever take the casing always looks dry no matter how wet it is. Could be the fluorescents too though. I have never had anything behave like these trays and it all started with the appearance of gnats.. not many but enough to cause worry because when you start seeing them they have already been there awhile.

those r totally different pics now. its def bacterial 100% positive on that. but you can still get fruits and i can see knots in there so just see what u get. just know that it would have been a lot better with clean spawn and the proper type of mycelium growth from the begining by using agar. also u can put tape, paint, or color with a crayon all u want on there and it wont make 1 bit of difference. cuz thats not what causes side pins. you get side pins cuz of the microclimate thats created between the walls and the substrate as the sub shrinks and pulls away from the walls

just give them the proper climate and environment and let them do their thing. just let it do the best it can and then clone your best fruits on agar then clean them up and use those to start new grows and save your best ones and that way you dont always have to go back to dirty nasty spores. but i aee pins formin and some knots so just stop misting and hand water around the pins and knots keep that casing wet and keep ur temps around the 77-81deg f mark with a high humidity and tons of fae. all is not lost man 👍👍

Yeah the biggest difference for me was how wet they like it compared to cubes.
I literally kept going and looking at some of jakes pics where they’re basically growing from puddles everytime I got worried mine were soaked.
The fogger was crucial for me also. They just insta fry once they get an inch tall without it.

I have a feeling this next tray is gonna be the one. I knocked it up with a wedge on the 12th so 12 days and just got this last little bit left
Which is pretty fast for me.
I just ordered two ultrasonic foggers coming tomorrow I’m gonna do two tubs with fan/filters on timers and the trays suspended on racks above the foggers

Could I prevent side pins by stuffing more pasteurized casing down the sides after the shrink. Although it almost seems like at that point it wouldn’t really matter anymore. I have a pile that I throw spent substrate outside behind a shed and all the time I see mushrooms out there but 90% actually grow underground. You can actually dig up full sized mushrooms caps open and all. Just found a couple today.

What’s wrong with it. It just looks like some thick mycelium but I’ve been waiting for full colonization. Lemme ask you this jcm. What is your recipe for your all in one bags. Rye/manure/straw all mixed together. I mean I’m kinda thinking that’s the issue because the transfer I used looked just like this one. Honestly I didn’t really even see how bad that marshmallow shit was till just now

Hey guys is that mycelium reaching up looking okay? I used the Modified PF tek for 10-12 half pint jars by mixing 5 cups vermiculite, 3 cups manure,10 tblspns BRF and 1.5 - 2 cups water. Cased with 50/50 verm/peat on the 15th and put straight into fruiting conditions. I went straight from jars to tray no bulk. I figured I’d mess around with Pans using PF supplies I still have. I will be buying Agar supplies shortly to start taking this operation seriously. Thanks guys for any feed back

Once a sub is colonized it doesn’t matter if it was sterilized or pasteurized right??
I’ve been sterilizing mine then spawning in the SAB and wrapping it with cling until it’s colonized. But I got mold after the first flush both times.
I’m thinking about pasteurizing my next one but if it won’t make a difference I don’t want to change what’s working.

I thought it was considered bad to wrap up a sub while colonizing? Cause it still needs airto exchange

I have heard there is good bacteria in the sub that is essential for the mycelium that doesn’t get killed off if it is cooked at 160 degrees but all the bad bacteria is killed off so I believe that is what pasteurization is about although I have seen some sterilize there sub/grain mix together and spawn to that too. If it works for you efficiently enough then you could run a side by side and see

Properly pasteurize substrates usually resist contamination longer than sterilized substrates not always though I’ve had batches of pasteurized bulk turn on me before same exact process I guess just a different organism load in the bulk to start with
