thats junk man you want aged manure and that shit dont smell like nothing but dirt or earth for the most part. im not sure what u bought but if its actually pure horse manure you can spread it all out outside and wash it with the hose several times and let it dry and wash and dry and wash until its totally leeched and good to use and dont smell like its fresh out the tube so to say lol

The manure I got is from A sponsor. Like I said, when it was dry it didn’t really smell at all. Very faint. It wasn’t until I pasteurized it that it smelled awful. I just threw the trays in a trash bag.

i have used their premade ready to use compost b4. 3 years ago when i started out i bought a few bags cuz i heard it was really good and it was very good to be honest. but it was just way too expensive. and as soon as my aunt got 2 horses i just go there and get what i want and make my own. i have never had their dehydrated horse manure tho so i cant speak to the quality of that. also i have used their casing mix actually fairly recently and it was pretty good. i had a friend give me a bag of it. those are the only things of theirs i have ever used
omg i just went to the site and looked up the prices holy hell thats some expensive shit lol

CosmicGiggle said: Not exactly a Johnny on the spot, if we’re going for accuracy I’d say it smells very much like dog shit, but a bit more pungent. If it is bad, any idea what the problem might be? I loaded the bulk into vacuum seal bag, but I didn’t suck all of the air out. Is that the problem? If I’d pasteurized in jars there would have been air in there so I didn’t think that would be an issue. Or is it the fact it was in a air tight sealed bag for two days, and if so should I have just cut a hole in the bag after it’s finished pasteurizing? I pasteurized at 162F for 12 hours, then let it sit for 2 days (I wanted to wait the full 5 days that Jake does but my spawn had already been consolidating for 10 days so I didn’t wanna push it any longer) and that’s really the only pertinent details I can think of.
Edit: I genuinely hope I fucked this up, cause if this is the norm I don’t think I have what it takes to grow pans. The room my greenhouse is in makes me nauseous every time I go in there. I’m tossing the trays. I don’t even want to bother cleaning the trays cause this shit really sticks to my nose hairs. Think I’m gonna just throw the entire tray in the trash.
If any of you pan growers know of a good step by step (bonus points for a tek with pictures. Pictures are everything to me when learning to do something I’ve never done before) for pasteurizing I’d very much appreciate a link.

I purchased RRs vids Last year and I did indeed watch every single one. I just wanted to ask the Pan pros in case there was something specific they do that’s not on there. And yes I bought that sponsors dehydrated horse manure, not the premade compost. If you know of a good online supplier of horse manure that’s reputable and cheaper please send me a pm. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone with horses.

I know this thread is usually used for active pans, but does anyone here know if these are foensceii? Or any of the other non-active panaeolus? Just had a shit ton pop up over 12 hrs in front of my apartment. I’m pretty positive they’re some sort of pan but trying to figure out which kind. As of now they’ve dried off from the rain and are more brown than translucent white

It probably went anaerobic. Possibly pasteurization was not complete or there was some other problem there. I've had it happen in the past. It smells god awful.

Found a source on Craigslist.
“Free composted horse manure for the taking. Composting for 14 months. Pick up evenings or weekends. Text before coming out to collect.”
Is 14 months sufficient? Should I ask if it’s mixed with anything else that would be detrimental?

Yeah I too have been issues with my manure and trays drowning out, I’ve had to do it before but if you can’t get optimal quality manure you can change your cut I use straw pellets and a higher % of chopped straw, the manure I’m using now is a dark compost, ideally it’s light colored and fluffy.

I'd still let it dry out and age of it were me. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it being properly composted or not. 14 months is probably fine though especially if its from a big pile.
I'm still trying to find a good manure source. Even the bagged shit is manure and humus compost. Can't find pure composted manure anywhere. It shouldn't be this hard to find literal waste.

It was the second listing when I searched manure on CL. About 20 minutes from me. He had about 5 pictures of a few large piles.

Bags look way better this time around, kinda slow but healthy. Around 60% colonized now. I reckon no shaking huh? Never colonized sub in bags like this before

This. It definitely went anaerobic IMO. You shouldn't leave the bags sealed after pasteurization.

Maybe using filter patch bags for pasteurizing would give you the fae needed to keep it from going anaerobic?

As far as finding bagged stuff I have a huge semi chain nursery down the street that had tons of stuff. It was like a one stop cult shop.
All kinds of manure and wood chips in bags from 5-200 pounds.
Way better than hardware store selection.
