Appears to be, been struggling with getting consistency with WBS. Need to switch back to rye or barley.

Yeah I had a huge bacteria problem with Pennington southwest blend. Total garbage.
Two things-
Have you guys ever noticed the trays putting off heat?? I’m assuming it’s from using manure cuz it doesn’t happen with coir. With pans when I pick up the tray I can feel heat radiating from it.
Second I just read blue helix’s first Aussie grow. How common is it to get red/brown spores?? They look so badass.

It all looks good at first on WBS, then it just kinda clumps and slowly falls apart like slime.
Sucks cuz cubes/oysters eat the shit up. Lions mane and cyans nope out.

Mine have always loved the cheap bulk Walmart wbs.

The one that went bacterial did start out good but then the myc kinda get a yellow tinge and wet looking and then stopped growing.

So I made another batch using a asuras weight ratios
I think my hpoo is way drier than most, because 300g was like 3qt. And 60g straw was like 1qt
Anyway, does this look right? I usually prehydrate straw, but left it dry this time (no soak). It seems super dry to me, like i doubt i could squeeze out any moisture.
Maybe after sterilizing it will be better
Really appreciate the feedback

ya aka actually all trays/tubs put out a decent lil amount of heat. no matter the sub. its a direct result of the substrate being consumed by the myc. thats one reason i am like wtf when i see people putting trays and shit on heating pads iv noticed as much as 10-15 deg temp difference in the room to montubs before

Can you squeeze water out of your sub? This is way drier than i prep hpoo and straw for cubes.. probably because no presoak for the straw

When I squeeze my substrate as hard as I can, a tiny bit of water collect between my finger but nothing will drip. I got strong hand tho and I do a death grip.
Help it helps

Apparently so compared to cubes, since id typically use 3000g water to 600g coir w cubes, so waaaay more than 62.5%
Also they hated my normal manure straw prep (though i usually add coir and verm for cubes, which i didnt that time; i bet the coir and verm usually suck up some of the excess moisture)
I couldnt squeeze any water at all out of the sub im sterilizing now (asuras recipe exactly by weight, although my volumes were much different), and im a strong dude
God i hope it works this time. I took the sterilization route and prepped waaaay drier and w way more manure and less straw

I may be turning the corner with this Wild Coast culture and new timer to exchange air more frequently / consistently... I set the bar nice and low more than five fruits and I have a personal best! Cross your fingers that these mature for me.

Thanks again to Zifozonke for the print, and jcm4620, Asura, Jake, and others for encouragement, technical support, and being inspirational.

Third flush. I changed the angle of airflows and it helps to move from tiny long stems with small caps to heavier and bigger fruits at once.

c10, just go by volume then you weigh yours if you like it and want to use it.
2 quarts straw, 1 quart hpoo, 1/2 quart verm. I use this volume because it fits in my trays. There's a lot of wiggle room in this, so I wouldn't get to hung up on exactly replicating what I'm doing. From that pic though, everything looks ok...but really light. My poo looks like soil when hydrated. Almost black.
