and while im also a math nerd/nut all day everyday at work. iv gtta admit that im one of the feel right guys lol and i dont even care to be honest with ya. i have tried weighing shit and doing it that way before several times only to always end up getting mixed results. now im sure its just cuz i didnt put enough time into it and figure out the exact numbers. cuz to me shit changes all the time and its always just faster and easier for me to go by feel cuz i have such a small grow that its just easier for me is all. i never make more than 4-8 qts worth of sub at a time.

think jakes talking about pasteurization  instead of sterilization of the substrate and spawning to the pasteurized sub instead of just inoculating sterile all in 1 type bags.

Yeah, I have done both ways Jake and Asuras.
Currently waiting for pins with 5 different clones (Asuras Ausi)
That first run was with LC->Asura PCed Bags, this time I bought a crock pot without any temp control, not really needed because the "keep warm" setting almost every single one is about 145-160F. Perfect for us
I done casing with it twice and substrate twice as well now, all with success.
I will have to play around with the timing, currently doing something similarly to Jake. About 5-8 H in the crock pot from start, timing will deepened on temp of water that you start with as well or how much you are pasteurizing.

So far I really enjoyed working with pasteurized substrate for pans because it makes it easier for me to spawn, not having to run my flowhood. Cannot run it how ever and when ever I want in my currently living situation.

Really can't wait for you to succeed c10
How you ever tried Pans?

So I got 5 clones going right now,  each one has its own tray. The casing for them all was made at the same time. Could someone explain why this happens. This time the mycilium on some of the trays really grow up throu the casing. My first time getting fruits the casing was barley colonized at all.

This is one clone:

And here is another:

Is one way of colonizing better then the other?:takingnotes:

I don’t have enough experience to say but my last grow went great and it grew over the casing a lot.

I cased, then had to sprinkle some patching on twice and still had some spots where there were huge puffs of myc, especially on the edges.

Pud, either one of those trays could explode. Sometimes the myc will form a wispy
layer on top and sometimes you'll see pins just popping through the casing.

This Huasteca I grew last summer was like your second tray:

Then 2nd flush of some wonky but pretty fruits:

As long as you don't see marshmallow on top, it's good.

The 2nd flush looks cool asura. Heavy caps.

c10 most of the time I have similar concerns on my subs. Hpoo is very dry and difficult to make sure the small pieces are soaking up hydration. I'm going to try Asura's math next run. Finally just ordered a kitchen scale today to compliment my other 2 smaller ones.

Thats what i tried, idk exactly what went wrong, but i think it was the moisture. Annoying because i work with straw and manure all the time, and never had something totally stall like this.. i definitely erred on the side of too wet. ill figure it out tho, with a little help from my friends

Thats what i tried, just hydrated straw, mixed w dry manure and hydrated both until manure didnt have dry chunks, then drained to field cap and pasteurized in bags in a slow cooker. Then spawned to bag. And it aint doin nothing

Ive done very small scale pans before, only got a couple of fruits, culture sucked too. Totally sloppy, shoebox on a shelf haha.. Asura hooked me up w some great prints and i wanted to play w jcms chamber so i figured id give it another try

My gh is set up for edibles and needs some major mods for pans

Seriously, c10, your initial target should be 2g dry. You dose that and then
the motivation levels will just sky rocket. Or you might throw all of your
cult shit in a dumpster. I've seen it go both ways

Somebody turned me on to this elsewhere and it seems pretty bad ass.

"A handy method to remove bacterial contamination from fungal cultures"
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0224635

If I understand correctly, on your clean plate you cut out a 3-5 mm hole
in the agar. Then (all very sterile of course) you transfer from your
dirty plate and drop the wedge into the hole. Then you cover hole
with a glass slip.

The fungi can grow through the slip and agar, but the bacteria cannot.
You can then transfer at the edge of the slip to a new plate.

Is this not essentially the same as sandwiching a culture between layers of agar on a plate?

There are some bacteria that can grow into the agar. BTI for example.

Got lots to choose from on my Pan Cambo germ plates. Does the same rule apply as with cyans to select the more wispy cultures and leave the cotton behind? I’d be more than happy with an answer to that question, but if someone has the time perhaps you could point to where I should take my transfers from.

those pics are not very good and i cant see them worth a shit but here is what i look for in pan myc.

then here you can see the difference in growth and you would want to make transfers from  B D E  in the areas that have that nice wispy kind of growth like in the pics above

for example.  B is the best looking one so take lots of transfers from around the entire thing pretty much.  now on D you would want to take from about the 6:30-11:30 area and then about the 3:00 area.  E also looks pretty good and you would want to take from about the 4;00-9:00 area

then to save you trouble again down the road here is what the myc looks like on rye

hope this helps you out.  i have some plates goin now and il try to remember to take some new better looking growth pics to show it better cuz my pics aint the greatest either

Thanks, been having trouble getting my Pan Cyans to colonize grain.

Think I haven't been isolating enough! Just dumped 10 jars of greasy/colonized grain into a manure pit in the backyard. Hopefully get some outdoor fruits.
