In the stone producer thread he was talking about casing grain instead of spawning it.

I do both straight grain and bulk, but i usually recommend casing straight grains to people having trouble just since it works great and reduces the number of things that can go wrong, and lets you harvest in as little as 10 days

Anyone ever try straight grain w pans? You got me curious now

I’d guess it works but not well.

Apparently people have done them with just grainspawn to coir.

Thank you Adas

Yeah, I just misted heavily since I have to crank up the heaters to maintain a low 65°F, and get a 20% ambient humidity as a result : /

I still can't believe it took 2 months to get there.

I figured. What about straight straw?

I have some 60% straw 40% manure pasteurizing now, bout to spawn a tray of alabama pan cyans to prop trays jcm style

God i hope this works!! All the tubs sold out so i had to get one smaller than i wanted, can only fit 1 tray at a time

cant wait to see how it turns out for ya.  straight straw not a good idea. its all about the poopies as jake once said lol
did u get the big long prop trays? and about what size tub did u get?
i use the full size ones they have at the hydro store here. they hold about 6 qts all together plus a thin casing. i also can only fit 1 tray per fc at a time. its the downside of the fc method i use. but if i use smaller lasagna type plastic trays i can fit 2 in each fc. i will normally do that when working with un proven or ms cultures. however on the aussies im runnin now i had to use my long full size trays cuz my small lasagna trays melted in the dishwasher lol.

Well folks
I think my Pan Trop trays may be goners ... my furnace went out and the house dropped into the high 50s. The little aquarium heater wasn’t any match for that and it got close to 60 in there. The mycelium that was visible in the casing layer seems to have atrophied... the furnace is fixed and it’s back up to 70-80 in there. So I’ll leave the trays in there for a few more days and hope for a miracle. 🤣

On a happier note my Wild Coast (thank you Zifozonke) trays are looking pretty good:

I think I’m going to wait a few days after the surface is fully colonized before I case them.
How does the mycelium look to you folks?

also c10 i spawn to bags and allow them to colonize to 100% then i will break them up carefully and finely and lay them to the trays to allow to recover. then il case them once recovered. then i allow the casing to colonize for about 18-24 hrs. then i will proceed to give them a very generous misting and place to the fc.

i have found that if i spawn straight to the trays. i have a higher rate of overlay and just all around not as good of a fruiting. now i dont know if this is just in my head. or if there is actually something that it does to it by breaking the bulk up and allowing it to recover to the tray. but i have noticed it seems to give me better results.

I wanted to make one that can hold 2 of those 10x20 prop trays, but tubs were all sold out

Im gonna build a 2nd fc soon so i can run 2 at a time. Really hope it works! I want some pans!

Yeah i remember you telling me that in dm! I did it your way exactly, except for pasteurizing in ziplocs JOC style. Got about 4qt sub and 2 myc qt spawn in a spawn bag now

Saved one jar of spawn to g2g some backups

Thanks again for answering my questions, and also big thanks to JOC and Asura

no prob man😃👍 also i will use multiple bags when spawning. just cuz it colonizes faster that way rather than havin 1 bag with everything in it. but either way should b just fine tho

I’m not sure what trops like, sounds like prob higher temps from the name but my pans got into the high 50s a couple nights and didn’t seem to mind much.

My stone clone jar is jumped off and running now, can’t wait for the next pans grow.

What’s the ceiling on temp for these?? I’m relocating my cube operation and SAB soon cuz it’s not dropping below 77 inside now unless I use ac and hitting high 80s in the afternoon, but I figure pans might like it.
