I mix casing up in a shoebox and just pour 5050 in then throw a couple handfuls of verm just cuz I have a bag so big it’ll last 20 years. If I had to guess I’d say 3-1 jiffy to verm.

Has anyone here ever used unpasteurized Jiffy Mix and had good results? I wonder if I could skip the pasteurization process and use directly from the bag.

Are you basically asking if you really need hpoo?

No he’s asking if you really need to pasteurize your casing I definitely would do you already have to pasteurize your bulk so what’s running one more bag really especially one that lasts for so long I only have to run a bag of case every few months but I am pasteurize bulk every few days

I don't pasteurize my bulk. I sterilize it and inject LC like Mary and Azura recommended.

Pasteurization seems risky as I have no idea if it wasn't partially sterilized on the outer edges of the jars due to too hot water. Or if it didn't get hot enough everywhere...

Sterilizing in bags is much less of a headache IMO. I hate pasteurizing because it feels so "unprecise" I'm allways unsure if it was good or not.

Yeah if you don’t A efficient pasteurizing method it can definitely be a pain in the ass however once you get it right you won’t want to go back I definitely notice additional contamination resistance on my pasteurized bark as opposed to sterilized. Either way will work though but yeah if I didn’t have the electric cooker to pasteurize I would be in the same boat manually doing it is a huge pain in the ass

That same pot costs 140 USD in Europe

Ah no, that's the bigger one. Still 100 USD for the 6qt size.

Still transfer out to a new dish when you use them so if you like your results you can replicate comes in handy if you clone and fail

So how much do you guys usually let your plates grow out?
I'm usually racing with cubes to catch them before the outgrow the plate, but...

I've got these fellas that have stalled out a bit, except in the past couple days starting to get more wispy at the leading edges...
Dunno if I should just give them another transfer or give em a go on grain as well.

If it was me, I'd probably take a bunch of transfers all around that second plate
...especially in that 9-10 o'clock position...and then use the rest (LC, grain, etc).

For whatever reason, I'm not feeling it on that first plate.

Spawned 4 trays of Pan Estero yesterday.
1 week ago I inoculated 6 PanCakes.
I got 2 Pan Ausi bag that got inoculated 3 days ago coming in behind them all..

I'm gonna get to try these damn fruits this year. I'm not giving up!

Had my crockpot on the "warm" setting all night full of water and tested the temp this morning. Kept it at a 145F. I know you use a bit higher temp Jake but this should be sufficient enough, right?
Trying it for my casing in just a few days

Edit: Jake say I do a big batch of casing. More then I need. Could I freeze the rest and simply re-pasteurize time and time again when ever I need more? (Making sure its still field capacity,  of course.
