So my pan jams are pinning in those little plastic tubs. I checked them today and they're caps are opening while they're still small. Was gonna try to flush these and switch to baking pan size trays next time but Jake said my tray walls were too tall so I gently cut those bastards down. Pins everywhere. I hope this helps bc these ones look happy. Left about half an inch above casing. RDU is right behind. Tons of pins but not above the casing yet. I hope trimming the trays now will let them grow tall like the mono did.
New mush bags to be delivered this weekend and then I'm doing your bag/lc Tek asura. Can't say I'll only choose pans (kinda a mush whore) but I love the difference in cultivation. I really think these are easier to work with than cubes just with how fast they are.
↑Started a bunch more pans last night.↑ British Virgin islands f1, wild coast, Gator clones. Hoping one of these will put me in a corner crying. I really kick myself in the ass for not learning these sooner, always thought they were too advanced.
May sound silly but I started a bunch of bags and jars last year and nothing grew. Nothing. I was baffled. Not even contams. Few months ago I bought some good ol street shrooms and in the experience I told them that I want to bring them into this dimension and I will work tirelessly to get them here if they will just work with me. In the trip I could see them everywhere in the walls, under the floor, on the other side. So I had an admin get me back into my account and once again my life has changed, dramatically. It's not even about the mush, there is something about this community that makes me grow as a person and I love you all.
Now where did my beer go

@jcm Awesome!
@spirit, I totally relate! And yeah, the speed of the grows is addicting. When you grow other stuff and your waiting around for pins, it almost hurts.
Anyway, I have some British Virgin Islands germ plates that I am about to transfer from. I think my prints are wild, though. I tried to use MEA plates the first time...and nothing.
Made a batch using LME, yeast and peptone and they blew up on the plates. Making transfers tonight.

Hi guys, I have a few questions concerning my upcomming first pan grow.
I have currently spores spawing onto grain, but it still takes some time till it's ready. Maybe two weeks or so, it's quite some grain in the spawn bag.
I'm unsure about the bulk substrate. With cubes, I just mix the spawn with some coir, that's it.
But pans need horse manure to grow, right? I cannot get fresh manure, only dried horse manure fertilizer-pellets. Are these ok to use? Is it okay to crush or powderize those small pellets, and mix it with coir. I'd also put in some well chopped straw. So it would be coir, manure and straw.
Should this work as a bulk substrate? Do I need to sterilize this substrate, or is pasteurizing enough?
A small casing layer is also neccessary. Is coir good enough as casing? Or shuld this also contain some manure? I had some pan-growkits recently, I think the casing layer was only coir or turf /peat. Worked very well!
Thanks, P

I would guess those pellets would work. You don't want fresh manure anyway. The stuff a lot of us use is field aged and looks more like soil than poop. The straw will be important.
You'll want a ratio like 70% straw, 30% hpoo by volume...or something around there. 65%/35%, etc.
For casing, use 50/50 (peat verm). Coir does not work as a casing layer.

Thank you, this helps a lot!
So only straw and manure for the substrate, no coir?

I've seen grows with it in the past, but I don't think anyone is using it these days. It's not necessary.

I sprinkled my casing on trying to keep it fluffy and so there's little gaps I can see down to the substrate. Pins are forming and filling in those gaps but a lot of them just poked above the surface. The flash in some of these pics takes away that they are coming up between bits of my casing. These are Pan Jams. Other two trays are RDU.

I didn't bother trying to take pics last night bc most of them weren't above the casing yet but they are this morning.

I ended up ordering that Walmart slow cooker. Probably going to run a coir/straw/hpoo sub in it tomorrow for either pan bisp or cyan estero.
