I had my pan substrate to recover in the tray for 2 1/2 days now. I think I made the mistake to cover the trays in such a way, that the foil was on the substrate (it made contact with the whole surface).

Today I lifted the foil to peak, as it looked completely recovered/colonized from the sides and bottom. I got a little shocked when I discovered, that on both trays I had this yellowish water pooling (quite big pool).

I don't know if it's poo-water, metabolites or bacteria. Maybe someone here has an idea?

Might have fucked my last pan resource. shit!

Looks like metabolites, but the myc also looks like it may be a lil bacterial, maybe not could just be the genetics, case it. It’s not trash yet. Still hope of a decent tray.
Poop agar is so not needed btw. All your basic agar recipes will be fine 9 out of 10 times
I’ve found pans nice quickest on peptone but it’s not needed

Thanks for your quick reply. What should I do with the pooling water? Should I take it off via paper towel?

Nope just tilt the tray and let it run off, it’s okay I like to keep my case super wet especially until I start to see pins then I turn the fog duration down the off time up a lil bit and increase the intake fan frequency, but your case should never look dry

All right, I'll let it run off to the side and case it tomorrow. (casing is still cooling)

Thanks again

I'm planning to fruit my pan trays in SGFCs. As the amount of perlite I have is limited, I would like to know if I need to have perlite unter the tray or if I could just put the tray on the bottom of the SGFC and only surround it with perlite.

I’ve never ran a sgfc for pans, the perlite is not gonna be enough to rehydrate ur case but it will possibly help keep ur fruits from drying out but you will undoubtably need to hand water if you evaporating like you should be. If I were me and I was gonna try it I’d burry it in the perlite I suppose

Yeah, sure. I'm planning to mist it completely until I see pins, then hand water from there.

All right. But then there's no need for perlite under the tray. Should be enough to have it only around it.

Edit: The image should have been like this:

Code:

\ / \ xxTRAYxx /
\xxTRAYxx/ or \xxxxxxxx/ <----- Perlite

Yeah I don’t see what good it’s gonna do you under the tray. I’m not exactly sure how the air flow of a sgfc works. I know in a mono you air enters from the high end holes and pushes air down and out the low side holes and it’s best to have them just above the surface of you sub. The sgfc seems like a bit of a scatter shot (pun intended) in terms of thermodynamics but I can see them helping maintain a rh without shutting off fae. For pans tho that’s not really the environment they thrive in IME. They like lots of air movement

As far as I have understood it, the warm air produced by the substrate/myc raises up towards the lid and hence new air is pulled from the bottom. This new air goes through the damp Perlite, gets moist and again raises to the top. So you have a circulation from bottom to top.

I suppose if your temperature is enough to put enough evaporation into the casing each day I would experiment with different settings of air movement in the room the SGFC is in to try and find a happy medium

Sure thing. But I guess there will be some trial and error. I hope to see at least some pins, so I can make a clone and keep the thing going... We'll see.
