I eventually got it to a pint where they were quite effective (too effective in fact) the problem with running pans in large mono tubs is pans are more Susceptible to contamination than tamps and cubes so you would find yourself throwing out much more substrate when something goes wrong then if you run trays it would also require more spawn. you’re going to have contaminated trays and mistakes I’ve continue to have shit happen all the time. it’s nice when it just means dumping the tray and starting over and then having to deal with a giant ass mono tub. But if you want to do it the way I did it was essentially set the tub up to function as my Martha does cycling the humidity to ramp up evaporation
Wow, really nice! I would have taken the skinny tall boys, too... Potency should be the same, right? Printing is obviously not possible but cloning would be (even if hard). So I'd call it a success

Would this kind of humidifier / fogger make sense to hook up to a modified mono as something like a mini-GH?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V39ZYJB/
Just thinking that because it includes a humidifier and a fan, you can get both humidity and FAE, and the cycle timing should allow you to dial it in after some trial and error (which I'd probably do with some trays of plain coir before I risked any real spawn). The two things that are lacking are FAE for dry air and heat, but presumably both could be solved if the room is warm enough (my place usually stays between 75 and 79) and if there's enough air circulation in the room itself to achieve high passive FAE.
Does that sound reasonable? Just thinking about how to find a middle ground between a standard mono / shoebox setup and a full Martha / Jartha / etc., as I'm in a small apartment and don't have space for a much larger setup than a single standard mono. I wouldn't expect it to deliver ideal performance, but just wondering if the more minor modification of piping in a reptile humidifier to a mono holding a couple trays would deliver worthwhile performance.

Yup if u look at the pan tek in my sig I go over the tub design. It helps to build an expansion chamber/carb to pre hydrate air going in. It took me several grows to dial it in but basically it’s the same as the GH except all the air coming in was hydrated one cycle more so than the other (otherwise Fruits would fry).

Thanks. Yeah, I was looking at your tub design and thinking about whether it could scale down further. But maybe I was just intimidated by the big stack of tubs and you can do the same with just one easily?
Anyway... So to make sure I understand, you're also humidifying the fresh air going in, just not as much? So you're cycling between (a) misty air from the fogger for high humidity and (b) just moderately humid air for evaporation? And you balance those two so that you get some evaporation during the dry cycle without actually drying things out enough to harm the fruits / sub, then replenish the moisture lost during the wet cycle?
(Apologies if it sounds like I'm being obtuse and this is all in the tek - I'm just trying to explain it in my own words to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.)

Depends if I’m printing or not, if not yeah I grab a cluster push down in a circle then pull straight back then I shake them over another tub set to the side and brush the extra case off. You can also kinda tap the stipes on the side of the tub by the fist full to knock it off

Pan cyan T1 plates. These were made 10 days ago...would you consider this slow growth? Picked the fasted growth from my germ plates, but it’s only 67F in my apartment and doesn’t get warmer than that in the winter months. Temp or my recipe are the only things I can think of that would be affecting the speed of growth (these plates used 4.5g LME, 5g agar, 300mL h2o)
I was wanting it to grow slowly at first while I continued to read this thread and garner more knowledge on cultivation but considering I still have a few more transfers to make I’m ready to start picking up some speed. Will be trying MFs hpoo agar recipe on the T2 plates.
By getting rid of the condensation on my plates, I ended up with a little standing water on my agar. I assume that water is spreading the myc around and causing this?

First ever venture into growing mushrooms. It’s exciting

I've also got pan plates going now (just went to T2 a couple days ago) and your growth rate seems reasonable, especially at those temps. I'm using 2% agar / 2% LME in my plates and my place averages about 75°, and my T1s took about a week to reach that size or a little smaller.
On a less practical note, the idea of hpoo agar is one of the grossest things I've ever heard. It's like someone said, "it's great that horse shit smells bad, but its consistency isn't disgusting enough for my taste. I know, we should make some shit Jello!" But hey, if it gets the job done I guess?

It gets the job done alright. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24940741/fpart/1/vc/1 I really like that it adds color without using food coloring.
I think jello would be a more desirable consistency of shit than it’s normal state where you can’t touch it without some sticking to your skin. Wouldn’t you rather have shit that just bounces right off you when you touch it?
