I recommend using polyacrylate to treat trichaderma.  Its the magic diaper crystals that are hyper-absorbent.  Sprinkle it on and around the trich and it will essentially encase it in a polymer prison.  You can at least slow it down enough to get through a flush.  Its worked for me in the past.  If the contam is too far along then it will eventually win but if you catch it in time the polyacrylate can stop it in its tracks.

As far as I have understood, the green color comes from trich sporulating. If that's the case, it means, that the trich has already colonized the substrate under the hood. So even if you "enclose it in a polymer prison", it might have spread already (invisibly). Right?

I wonder, what would happen, if I have fruits from trich-ed substrate and just dried and consumed them. Would the trip be bad (i.e. stomach pain) or any other negative effect? Shouldn't be lethal or anything, right

Correct about the sporulation. Once you visibly see the trich it's already balls deep in the sub.

Incorrect about trich fruits. They are fine. You can always boil fruits in a tea if you are concerned.

ive heard that b4 and im not sure id do that. if its before first flush its cuz it was most likely due to bad spawn. and when thats the case its already too late and thru the whole substrate on the inside already.  so  im thinkin i had a bad jar cuz all the other trays i spawned at the same time seem to be fine so im just gnna chalk it up to a bad jar rite now and count my losses on this tray and c how the other 3 fair. but thanx for the suggestion 👍

That's great!

Thing is, the flush is usually bigger than you can consume in one trip   So you need to store them somehow. I have that little food-dehydrator to dry them crisp, then I crush them to powder. If I use that powder for tea, it shouldn't be too bad then...

Anyway, thanks for this. I have thrown away 3 mini tubs due to trich (including fruits) until now. Won't happen again.

I mean if you have to worry about eating trichy fruits...you might
not be cultivating enough

Yeah, right. It's all a matter of space and time...But if there is no health risk, why waste the good shrooms?

Also:
When I lost those tubs to trich, I had 3 separate cultures going. After nocing the jars I put the agar dishes into the fridge and forgot about them. Then, after spawning my tubs got trichy and I pulled those agar dishes from the fridge. After some days/weeks I started to see strange whispy myc growth on them, so I guess there was something wrong with the agar or my technique. One bad agar bottle (20 dishes) can destroy many cultures at the same time. And then you sit there with 3 or more tubs and all are bad. Even if I had made 10 tubs, all would have been bad, I guess...

@Prietenul haha I was being a little facetious there, sorry about that.
I get your point, but hopefully you aren't getting 20 plates of bad
cultures...that would be pretty bad. I recently replaced my flow hood
filter because I was having some unexplained issues, so I hear ya.

No offense taken  I get your point, too. Just need to diversify more (different agar dishes with different cultures, reduces the risk of total failure). And if my finances permit it, I'll definitely build a flow hood and a martha.

When I started, I thought, that it can't be that hard...then the failures started. But I think I learned the most from exactly those failures. And it's getting better and better every time I try again. So those failures have their value... Frustration does not help.

Hey jcm4260
Wow what a reduction in weight  compared to the fruits in the tray! They really do dry up huh
....B ut still lots of good trips + more flushes for you to come I hope..
Are you growing other pans besides Pan Jams?

...can't wait till I get mine fruiting!

Not that I need one. Can buy vials of Pan Cyan Jamaican (sadly no professional prints). But, may I ask the reason why you guys send to the US only?

You are not the first one from whom I read this, and I'm genuinely interested about what the reason is.

Is there a security risk or anything?
