Hmmm, some of my Pan transfers are bruising on agar, is there a reason for this? sign of a contam maybe?
I'm sure one of the plates is contaminated with bacteria, i see the colony but its far from the mycelium.... will be transferring a nice clean cotton part away from it.
So is there a reason behind Pan mycelium to bruise like this, or is it just normal?

Jiffy mix, or some kind of non nutritious seed starter.

Bruising on agar? How long have they been on agar? If its turning blue on agar I think you have a minor bacteria problem underneath your culture. That sometimes gives specific parts an almost see-through wispiness when they come in contact with that.
Can you take a pic?

Well i've been neglecting them since exams started, so I'd say around 1 week or so maybe..
Transfer plate 1, view up & down..

as you can see, there is bacteria growing on the side, but when you look below you see a yellowish colour where the mycelium is bruised, so i think you're right tagyo. (btw ignore the lumpy/shiny looking agar here, i moved the agar while it was semi solidifying so it got fucked up lol, so i transferred the wedge there any ways...cus i was like fuuck it)
This is plate 2 taken from below.

The yellow beneath, is also the spot where its bruising, so yes, you are right tagyo.
I'll be transferring the outermost clean mycelium when i have time. lol
Sorry for the kinda shitty pics, my iphone camera is getting fucked these days for some reason, can't take nice focused pictures as it use to do like my microscopic pics of Cyanobacteria and shit... I guess iphones just loathe mushroom mycelium for some reason lol

I love me some pans, nice thread.

I have recently been working with them invitro style using cakes with good results. Not great yields by any means, but easy and quick:

I even saw some grow true inviro:

The recipe isn't anything new. I just use brf, manure, verm, coir and gypsum.
Inoculated with a slurry, either double end cased or dunked and rolled and fruited in small containers with holes for FAE. I place the cakes over a layer of field capacity casing and set and forget. Easy breezy.

just cased some brazilian cyans last night.
it was kind of a "eh, fuck it I have this jar lets see if it works" kinda grow so I'm not expecting much.
I don't have any poo so I just spawned a quart or rye to cvg, it actually colonized, and then cased with a peat/verm/lime casing.
first time I've cased anything so lets see how it goes. ill post pics if it does anything in a week or so

Thanks for the kind words all.
I've been working with pans for some time now. They are by far my favorite active to work with thus far. I and another grower(who gifted me some spores) are working on a sub-strain that throws off leucistic and true albino pans. So lm looking forward to seeing them fruit.

You && me both!
Leucistic huh?.. Interesting. Is that of the cyanescens sp? I know there has been record of the australian variety throwing out specimens with a red/rust colored spore deposit.
