Hey guys with pans will a thicker substrate cause them not to fruit at all or will it just be less prolific?

There was a discussion not long ago about using sand as a casing layer for substrates with overlay, It might help.

Ime once you go beyond 3” thick your yield starts to decrease. Pans are prone to going anaerobic so you don’t want sub too thick

Guys a very stupid question about the spawn rate.

1/4 spawn rate is in example 6 cups of substrate 2 cups of spawn = 8 cups ? or is 8 cups of substrate 2 cups of spawn = 10 cups?

6substrate to 2spawn = 1:3
8substrate to 2spawn = 1:4
I use the 1:4 ratio

Another question guys, you guys use a extra layer of substrate at top to avoid exposing the grains that are at top?

Guys you have me salivating at these gorgeous pics of Pans! :super:

I am really inspired by your work..and am eagerly looking forward to (trying to !) fruit these gorgeous mushrooms.. been reading Jake's, Asura's, Mary's BH's Angam's amongst other teks and  :takingnotes:

I currently have several plates of Pan camb (few t1 and some t2-t4) and 4 pan cyan alabama (T1- Asura)

The Pan camb T1 agar plates are well overgrown and bruising blue in some parts. They are at least a month old.  Shall I put these in the fridge or discard them?  T3/T4 plates are clean and not overgrown so I have a fair amount of healthy myc..

Also - When you have isolated some healthy good
looking mycelium - which plates do  you save and which do you discard? And when is a good time to save/put in fridge for longer term storage- when they are half way across the plate or ...?

Sorry to ask here but I struggled to find the answer to this in any of the agar threads..

I am planning to go Agar-LC-Bulk bags

Thanks again for the inspiring pics and grows guys..

LK

I keep old plates until they dry up but have never had to go back to them once I've already transferred from them. You could probably toss the T1 plates but if you hold on to them a little longer you might see some pins form that you could clone. As far as putting them in the fridge, I don't know how well pans take to fridge temps. Some old info I read says they don't recover well from cold temps but that might be outdated. I'm curious about the answer to that too if anyone has experience storing pan cultures in the fridge

thanks Hans, makes sense, I will see if any pin, I might just run out of room for plates if I keep all the old ones, but equally would be nice to see what happens if I just let em pin !

Yeah would be cool to see how other people are storing their pan cultures- same as cubes? Slants? I am new to all of this so any tips are appreciated!

Hello guys, i pasteurized some substrate in half gallon mason jars and when i wanted to use them they were not at field capacity anymore. I was like what? They were inside the mason jars how they dried so fast? Anyone experienced something similar?

Thank you BH!
I’ll have my clone ISO’s run thru soon but first I still need a few things
This is another pan Jalisco tray (blind transfer) I already have my iso I pulled from the last Jalisco tray so this will just be for prints

My first blind transfer of pan jam resulted in dwarfs, I still took a clone but I wanted a good pheno also so here is another pan jam ms with much better looking genetics. (About to pull clone now)

I never did get a good clone transfer off the last senguio so here is a different blind transfer with a unique pheno which I like

And finally a pan as us blind iso that will get scrapped as I already have a really nice clone iso on these

Once I have all my ISO’s I’ll begin crossing (both traditionally and forced hybridization) the unique phenos make successfully crosses ISO’s much easier to spot, and once the PCR arrives It will be even easier.
Pan cams (indo, sandoze, Goliath)  run thru next also for cloning
