Depends on the casing. Coir, yes certainly it will colonize. Peat or jiffy mix not so much IME. But it will reach through.

Looks like I had it right on mine with the cloudy grow through. Haven't pulled off a canopy like Blue Helix's though (yet). Great info.

Some of my macmerdin 'pancakes' ready to be fruited...

And a few shots of a cake that was buried outside in garden after I dropped &broke the lid before it was finished-and its already starting to show some pin action!!

Giving this a shot now. I'll have to use liquid culture directly onto it.

Inoculated about 10 jars this morning. 4 with agar, the rest with LC...all directly onto manure/straw at about 3:1 ratio.

Let's see what happens.

Does anyone have problems with the manure rotting?  Anytime I have ever screwed up pans, it has been because of this.  Even when I pasteurize for long periods of time.  It just seems so easy to contam.

You must not be pastuerizing high enough/properly because it should be good for a while after heat treating, especially if you get up into the 150s

I did 4 jars recently at 155 for 4 hours and a week later those
jars smelled like a hobo sprayed diarrhea all over a gas station bathroom.

Yeah I mean
I wasn’t claiming that pasteurized shit is non perishable, just stating that as long as you pasteurize-to-order (doing it the day before) you should have at least a flush before you see contamination especially with clean spawn

I was really replying to fighting cherries. Not sure what happened. It was god awful though. It was the
first time I had let something sit around for that long and not use it, though.

sound like anaerobic rot to me. in my experience, pasteurization does nothing to prevent this. it has be used or at least opened up to breathe. otherwise it turns to swampshit.

Yeah I have had pasteurized manure sit fine for months, even my bucket tek'd manure lasted 3 weeks before going bacterial.
But soaked manure( too wet ) doesn't last long
