Yes do make sure your pan cyans bruise blue. It should readily bruise blue. Touch the cut tip to a piece of paper and you should be able to see the paper stain blue.

There are non active pans, that dont bruise blue at all. Hope your spore print was correctly Identified.

And yes it doesnt need a casing it just really helps.

Anyone notice how animal poo, cow & horse has folds? It seems to me pan stems like to emerge from these folds if possible. And it seems to me the "fan like mycelium" that appears before fruiting is perfect for bridging the gaps in those folds while creating a more suitable condition for primordia.

Meaning making a casing is like creating a nice space for this type of action to happen. Along with giving better moisture related surface conditions.

Yeah the blue is very noticeable. You should see it at every cut

Hmmm I wonder why mine aren’t bruising. I never noticed it on my atl 7 either but maybe because they’re dark brown I just can’t see it. But these are white so idk. I definitely trust who I got the print from though

There are some dung lover mushrooms (don't remember the name) that are inactive and they look very similar to P.Cyanescens. I suspect the guy that took the spore print thought it was copelandia?

I'm about to make some MEA agar 500 ml of water.

I'm wondering if i should do 10 grams of Malt extract vs 9 grams... Something tells me to do 9 grams... Does pan myc likes less nutrition in agar?

I know its been covered a million times but....

Im casing my pan cyan (wild florida) tray today and i just have 2 questions:

How wet should it be? (over, under, or right at field cap)
do i need to pasteurize or sterilize the casing?

Also side question because im pretty sure i know the answer: is miracle gro peat moss cool? it doesnt have any -cides or anything in it right?

EDIT: i cased it with unpasteurized peat/verm (50/50), ill be blaming yall if it tams out :rofl2:

I don't even think about casing moisture. I make my casing under capacity so
that it's easier to apply. When I case, I drench the fucker with my mister
and put it in to fruiting.

And 50/50+ is better than 50/50 (in my opinion of course )

Woo hoo! Prints came in the mail, straight to agar. I just simmered wbs so I made grain water agar. Looks like sewage. Got twelve more Stirbars in the mail. I do like this stir plate.

50/50 plus... what? Isn’t the casingsupposed tobenon-nutritive? I use a coir casing on cubes so I know that’s not always the case but I thought that casing pans was only because it’s difficult to get correct surface conditions, even with an automated Martha.. no?

That's correct. It's used to maintain surface conditions and it should be non-nutritive.

50/50+ is what you are using with the addition of something like lime (or crushed oyster shells)
to bump up the pH to at least 7.5. It's said to be more contam resistant. My experience is
that it is.

Oh alright alright, I actually omitted the lime just because I didn’t know if I had the right stuff.

Does ms wages pickling lime work?

Also my tray recovered perfectly within 36 hrs and there’s nothing off-looking at all surprisingly, so I’m gonna go ahead and assume my dung/straw/verm was thoroughly pasteurized and is a low contaminant risk at this point. Could prove me wrong though 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think that's basically the same thing as food grade calcium hydroxide, which is
what I use.

Fast recovery is an excellent sign so good luck, man. I'm excited for you.

Hey guys,

I ordered some pan cyan aus spores from mushrooms.com and starting my first pan grow.

I've already germinated them on agar and transferred it to diluted grain water to make LC.

Everything looks good so far and just waiting for the LC to clear up.

Hoping to inoculate barley grain and then spawn to straw.

Looking forward to sharing the results, or fails.

Doing this, do you find that you need to re-moisturize the casing at anytime?:takingnotes:

I put my casing on sopping wet.

The key is to let it dry a bit before wetting again (evaporation is the key pinning trigger) but not dry enough to dry out.  You get a feel for it after a while.
