i recall asura saying shake is good because either a) good recovery gets faster colonization, or b) shitty recovery reveals weak culture, don't bother spawning.
edit: ... yeah, just like that. ^^^

Slowly but surely I'm working toward completing my first grow. Of my 7 jars, 2 of them were very slow to recover and grow after shaking. Eventually they fully colonized but were definitely slightly bacterial. I decided to spawn them to bulk anyway.
They smelled lightly like pan mycelium (whereas the 5 good jars were much stronger), but with a slightly sour bacterial smell. Anyway after spawning they colonized the bulk very quickly and vigorously and had that strong pan smell like the other 5. I'm glad I spawned them instead of throwing away but damn, these species are really susceptible to bacterial contams. I can't even remember the last time I had bacteria contam a spawn run. Might have to step up my sterile work in the future haha.
I mention it because I vaguely recall someone saying that stalling of pan jars might be related to bacterial contams. It makes sense, because if it was just physically weak surely it wouldn't have grown as a LC what with the constant stirring. Whereas thicc specie like oyster mushrooms will bulldoze through most bacterias no problem, pans might not be as tough and get slowed down or even stall completely.

Cubes in my pans again. I’m starting to think it’s the print I got no way I’ve mixed these up three times in a row now.

Thats pretty weird, how'd you not notice the different myc at/before spawning?
Iv got some pans coming up in a flower pot with aromatic herbs right now. no pics. mixed some cube myc and pan myc in the same pot. hopefully it makes for a cool gift, fruiting cubes or not.

Upgraded my spawn room. It’s now carbon filter + pressure

I’ve been having problems with contamination so I upgraded my agar and Spohn room I ran test dishes the other day to see if I need a new filter in my Spohn room flow hood it’s only been two days but so far they are clean

I mean it looks like pan myc to me

Also does anybody know this stuff that’s popping up in my pan plates. Is it a contam? Or just something pan myc does after being on a plate for s long time?

I think it's pan myc. In the blue pearls thread people are posting pan myc (pseudo sclerotia) that looks very similar.

I've got some wild cyans from S. Africa that is doing something similar on plates.
In my case, it looks like stone formation.

Been a busy boy over the last few months since jakeonacid very kindly sent me a peace river print. Had it on agar and made a few jars of LC (which is new territory for me). Have inocculated several rice cakes (below) and also some grain I've yet to use.
Cakes have been birthed in grow chamber with perlite and humidifier. Will add a fan for fae soon. Heat mat resting on top seems to generate a nice temperature.
I'll update if it works.

There is a little straw added to the cakes and the casing is verm and cactus compost.

27 qt pastywhyte style monotub

Decent pinset but the fruits are looking dry and stringy. It's almost impossible to water without hitting pins. Oh well. This is 4 days after pins formed.
Edit: zoomed in

Unfortunately, my pre sterilized bag of Alabama sub didn't make it. The seal broke in one of the corners and the whole thing was molded already when I found out.. Just finished cleaning everything up after the clouds of spores that came out.
Got some Alabama myc on grains left though. Gonna spawn that this week

Cased this 3 days ago(?) along with the shoe box but that shoe box its not looking like this, probably wasnt fully colonized. Thought i took a pic to post, oh well nvm. I think letting the shoe box colonize outside was not the best idea, the inside looked like the perfect environment for cubes. Now its cased and in the FC.
In the mean time... This bad boy is going crazy.

Also update on the outdoor patch, the one with cardboard ect, no second flush unfortunately. We went through a extremely dry & hot period, and id hoped it survived and would fruit with the change in weather, but nope nothing. And I dont mind trying again.

Shoe box in progress.

Bro arent you going to finish that casing layer? lol.
This one is a surprise clone, threw one stem piece in four containers 3/4 nothing, this one looked bad with too much water I so opened it, checked it out and I threw it outside as one more container to clean. idk how much time went past as i dont take many notes, but it was surprisingly fully colonized, cased it and here we are.
Edit: I ran out of agar but still wanted this clone saved, so before casing, this guy ended up having some aerial myc taken into small jars of sterilized straw. So at least the tissue is there stored & relatively clean until I get more agar.
