Slowly working my way through this thread.

I'm drawn to the simplicity of the MacMerdin tek but looking to inoculate from grain spawn.

I'm thinking of PC'ing the bulk substrate in 500ml PP5 containers (like MudaFuka bottles) but first hollowing out an inner hole using a dowel (like they do in Asian bottle growing teks for edibles), in order to receive the colonised grain.

Is there any reason to not proceed in this manner?

The only thing I can think of is your sterile technique.  If that's good then why not?  Keep us up to date on how it goes.

Thanks Macmerdin.

Otherwise to follow your tek I would go from agar to a liquid inoculant / slurry?

Also, I've read on the various pan threads about the need to locate and transfer the thin wispy myc but with your tek, I could go from print to agar to slurry and then inoculate without getting too hooked up on finding that type of growth?

Personally I feel the opposite. I am much less “afraid” of taking pans than cubes. They are so euphoric for me I have to control how often I take them. I’d trip most nights on them if it were not for tolerance and I didn’t have shit to do and a family. Now if I stop my micro dose for a while and let my tolerance drop and then eat an eighth it is def an adventure but still primarily enjoyable for me. When I have a tolerance and I eat a few grams I get very happy giggle a lot and get crazy closed eye visuals but I can still function, see converse all that. They make me happy During and after.

You got a link? Ain't gonna lie...I've always said they scare the ever living fuck out me. At higher doses it can be really
sketchy...like one wrong move and you can go off the rails mentally.

Don't look for clarity and direction from copelandia.  They're some of the darkest and most unpleasant of all the psilocybin containing mushrooms.  If you want a clean trip, P mexicana or P cyanescens/azurescens is what you're looking for.

So 5 days ago I cased my first Pan cakes, following MacMerdinsrecipe.
I have a Pan Jam LC almost done and I just now put Pan Alabama, Pan WC Texas, Pan Ausi on agar.

Will transfer for fast wispy growth a few times then use Josexs poke to lc and also use the plates for grain.

Im not giving up with pans until I got to try them haha!

Can you explain how you go to LC? I'm a little stuck on the best way to make LC. Is there any reason you don't just go agar to grain?

LC is just a small wedge in nute enriched water.
I always go dish to grain tho. I like to see the full culture I’m using.

Gotta say I'm kinda excited about these plates. Took some tips from asura for streaking plates and gotta say it seems to have made things a lot easier. Didn't have nearly the number of colonies stacked on top of each other which made choosing ideal growth a lot easier. These are the nicest looking T1 pan plates I've gotten yet. Wonder if there would even be any benefit in transferring some of these further. Some already look like what I am for.

A fruiting chamber setup for Pans [Re: Grimsweeper] * 6
    #26155587 - 08/27/19 03:40 PM (4 years, 5 months ago)

Hi Y'all,
I just responded to a PM request for some more information on my fruiting chamber setup. I really haven't made any changes to it for quite a while mostly because its been working ok for me. I thought i'd put this out there anyway- its a fairly low tek GH/Martha setup for anyone to consider if they are looking to get a Pan optimized fruiting chamber up quickly. Asura and Jake also have well dialed in FC's.
For Pans the 3 factors I’m trying to manipulate are TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY and AIR EXCHANGE/AIR MOVEMENT.

HUMIDITY-
On the bottom tier left side is a “wicking” humidifier that serves two purposes- to bring fresh air into the GH (I leave the front opening of the GH partly unzipped to allow outside air to be pulled in by the wicking humidifier)  and to humidify that air as much as I can- (the ambient humidity in my grow room  is typically ~30 to ~65% relative humidity). The wicking humidifier alone can bring the humidity in the GH to between 80 to 90%.
I’ve had best luck with high humidities for fruiting stage Pans so to bring humidity higher an ultrasonic humidifier is used- bottom right side of the GH. I split fruiting into two parts: before first pins appear and after pins appear. Before first pins (between casing and the first pins) I like the humidity to be very high- 97-98%. Around 24 hours after the first pins appear, humidity is dropped- to ~94 to 96%. As you can see the ultrasonic is raised up on a bin to bring that humidified air closer to the two upper shelves. You can of course assist the whole system by having some heated water in that bin.

AIR MOVEMENT/EXCHANGE-
Air enters at the bottom of the GH thru the partially unzipped front, is sucked in to the wicking humidifier and exits from a partially unzipped flap at the top of the GH canopy in the back. On the middle shelf there is an accessory fan that pushes the humidified air up to the top tier. Since the ultrasonic is housed at the bottom of the GH that accessory fan is NEEDED to pull that mist from the ultrasonic to the upper tiers. When I put my hand above the trays on the top shelf I like to be able to feel a slight breeze, those hanging ties on the front of the canopy at the top should flutter a bit.

TEMPERATURE-
Pans, especially cyanescens, like it hot 79F-84F (26 to ~30c). I really dont know the top limit for temperature because I never had it hotter than 85F. Under my conditions I always had to heat the closet that the GH was in from an ambient of ~70- 73F. Looks like you are in a different temperature and humidity zone than me. My climate is almost desert. This may not be relevant to you but the less expensive way to heat a small space like a closet is with a couple of seedling heat mats rather than a space heater (I don't put heat mats in the GH, but rather in the closet that the GH is in).

CONTROLLERS-
Temperature & humidity are under the control of  Willhi or Inkbird controllers. Those wires hanging down from the top are the sensors. The humidity controller only controls the ultrasonic, the wicking humidifier is always on.

In a way this fruiting chamber is a small evaporative cooler. As the water laden air (mist) from the ultrasonic is pushed up to the upper tiers where the air is drier that water evaporates and causes the temperature to drop so those upper tiers are a zone of evaporation. I dont really want the temperature to drop but it proves there is plenty of evaporation in an already high humidity environment- these guys seem to like it.
Its one of the simpler GH setups, works great for four 3qt. size trays- two on the top tier and two on the mid level; i’m still using it because its worked for me & im maybe too lazy to make changes.

I know I left some stuff out, if you have other Q’s- lighting, equipment etc. feel free to ask.

Best Wishes!
mf

Good to see you, mary. I am definitely bookmarking this because I am going to set up another tent in my laundry room I think.
Need better control of FAE that I just can't get in my current setup.

Still experimenting to find a better way to do everything.

Thanks Mary, that's very helpful.

I imagine other species could also be fruited in this setup, just with different temperature and humidity parameters? I have a fantasy of a few GH's like this, all dialled in for different actives and gourmets.

🍻 bud!
Took with about 3 g of bumblebee kratom I harvested & dried today just started coming on. I’ve been taking kratom with my mush the last few times now and it’s nice knocks back the already minimal anxiety I get from pans, makes things feel even more smooth,
