Jack, I can tell that's mold by the speed and the pattern. Wait for it to turn green (probably) in 2 days.

for real? would you expect the plate they came from to be green already? about to go check.

thank you for casting doubt. i haven't seen mold move that fast either. not 100% convinced either way.

edit: my eyes ain't what they used to be, you're probably right.

but that means that mold must have already been running on the sub, which isn't molding. no way it germinated in that short a time, is there? man, this crazy.

Looks good to me but the color distortion makes it hard. But yeah the pans will move very fast. A good culture will eat a dish in 7-10 days

On the sub? So you took a piece of substrate and put it to Agar or what?

so i was having a hard time getting any kind of clone going from taking samples from inside the stipes. they were all just turning into bacterial messes. so i tried a few by slicing whole sections out of fuzzy stipes like those pictured here. all four taken from this cluster are behaving as i hoped/expected. bacteria here and there, but growing out enough to get clean transfers. not especially fast, tho.

well this culture, mold or otherwise, came from a similar operation from a different sub which wasn't showing nearly as much fuzziness. it took off immediately. consulting that original plate, it's now completely filled with extremely fine fuzz. cobweb, i guess. kind of disappointing, kind of a relief.

Asura. When I make tea I do a hard boil and a reduction so I can drink less.

My come ups are intense and I'm thinking it's because of drinking it quickly rather than sipping it. Comes quick. Hits hard. Mellows after 45 min's and stays steady for a few hours

Yeah I drink it quickly, too, and the come up is just too intense. I might actually try sipping it next time
and space it out over a half hour or so. I don't really do well with reality leaving all at once. I mean ease
me into it, buddy!

I feel you. I made jello from a reduced tea a few weeks ago. Good idea, no cigar. Since then, I think jolly ranchers, or popcicles would be a good idea. Just not as quick as straight tea.

I hate to do this here but....
Do these look like healthy pan myc?

They seem off to me. Some of these  were the original swab on agar

Those bright white spots just look like mold to me and this is my first time with pans. I’ve tried two different syringes multiple times on agar no germination, I’ve tried modified “pan- cakes” two times with no germination, and finally bought a print  from a reputable vendor. So now I just need to make sure I’m not transferring mold around :lmao: thanks to anyone that helps. Sorry if this shouldn’t be posted in here.

I came back to this after a few days away. The casing seemed very dry and the fruits were tiny in the extreme. You might be able to see from the picture. I'm still optimistic that I am close to getting the conditions right as long as I don't go away.

I've just made up six brf pf cakes to noc up with my pan LC. I'm going to try those when they are ready. I added a bit of straw to the mix.

The second flush didn't progress past aborts so I threw them out and they all had mould inside.

I've modified my chamber a bit to add more ventilation for better fae. I suspect it was a bit too stuffy.

Fail, but I feel like I'm a little closer now than I was. Honing in.

Failures are sometimes the best teachers.

Meanwhile, if you just want a few fruits, why not try pan-cakes?  They are pretty easy.

Already got six in my incubator that I inoculated a couple of days ago with LC. Went for BRF and a bit of straw. Previous manure attempts all went bacterial.

Thanks for taking time to answer that! I guess I finally got something to work with!

As far as everyone else trying the cakes I haven’t had any luck with those either. Probably my dumbass putting the syringes in the fridge for storage or old syringes

I use liquid inoculant.  Which is I take a clean agar plate with mycelium,  have a syringe made up, squirt the water from syringe into plate, swirl and swish and jab to get mycelium and agar slurry, suck back into syringe.

I don't put spores to syringe anymore since this method is fool proof as long as your sterile technique is good.
