I think the most difficult aspect of my grow was getting a clean and really aggressive myc started in agar then grain. I did lc too but its better to start with agar if its wild prints you collected in the field. I did about 8 agar transfers to get a great strain. Fruiting was straight-forward like cubes but higher temps and humidity and fae. I focused on the common parameters/conditions for happy pans rather than a recipe and didnt write it down exactly...so lets see if I can repeat.

That blue planter was a hail mary and it gave me 12 cm side pins and 3 robust flushes. All I did was take elements from different grow logs and spend a lot of time tending it. Digital nomad had the time working from home.
agreed, great work, man.
spending a lot of time tending is the trade off for low tech. edit to add: i suspect so, i am not an expert.
i find something lovely about this kinda view, tho. nothing spectacular, but a personal best nonetheless.

Your trays are looking great Flash.
I would love to automate more and not have to be on top of it 24/7. I went traveling(beachfront bocce ball on .5g - i recommend it) after the harvest and my gf couldn't keep my next batch going while I was away so I had to toss three trays in the compost heap. I think what Asura did and the detail of the post is really instructive.
I'm definitely interested in automation and hope to learn as much as possible sharing ideas others here.

My tents are fully automated. I just gotta keep the foggers full. My wife was able to keep everything alive while I leave for 4 days of music & if you knew her you’d be impressed lol

Yeah, I think it's interesting that the psychology of it all isn't getting researched further here. If what I've been reading about Tamps, they may likely be perfect for PTSD (currently mdma is the 'psychedelic' of choice for working with it). Part of my practice with mushrooms is about helping heal people, and you need different medicine for different issues. Totally makes sense to me.

Do you ever mist after you spawn your trays, or is it basically set-and-forget (outside of ensure the automation continues)?
Small update on my pan-cakes:

My pan-cakes molded out Sad. I had my contam issues under control for a couple months, now they're back with a vengeance. I'm trying to figure out what the issue was, but all I can seem to find for myself as an answer is wait for my flowhood to get finished. If I hadn't spent my first year learning how to grow in a pretty contam-stable environment I probably would have given up on this hobby after tossing what I just did the other day.
So, after that I'm also trying to troubleshoot as if it is possible the contam didn't come from bad inoculation sterile technique
One possibility that I'm thinking is the coffee in the substrate. The mold started in some places on these cakes that wouldn't have happened just from being exposed to air (like from the center of bottom areas that were firmly pressed against the plastic)... One of the other factors that makes me feel like it's possible it was something else is that EVERYTHING had the same issues with contam, and most had it in multiple spots across the substrate, none of which were on the surface. I feel like a 100% failure rate points to something wrong beyond just when I inoculated it.
So, two things come to mind:
- I only did 1h45m @ 15psi... should I have gone longer?
- Is coffee necessary in my recipe? Also, is there anything else I can remove from my recipe?
My recipe:
- 2c Verm
- 2c Manure/Hummus
- 2c Water
- 1c Brown Rice Flour (BRF)
- 1c Ground rye grass seed (RGS)
- 2Tbs Coffee
- 2tsp Gypsum
When my flow hood is done I'm going to do round two on these. I have just enough spawn left to give it another try, but I want to ensure that I've got most of my possible contam issues ironed out. I still have the pan aussies on agar (a few plates honestly) and I'm also going to try to grow out some LC again too in case this doesn't pan out, but also waiting on Flow Hood to be clean on that end.

Absolutely! I spend a large chunk of my time noting these differences because I believe that information will be extremely valuable one day soon. As for the automated tents yes I have a spray bottle of distilled water that I will occasionally touch my trays up with but in all honesty that’s probably more just my OCD than anything last time I left for four days shit came up while I was gone and everything was perfect. I will adjust my fogger up and down depending on how my trays look so it’s not 100% fully automated I still check on it and I still make minor adjustments and I have to keep my humidifier filled with water but other than that it pretty much runs itself my refrigerator tent is completely automated I don’t have to do anything except fill the fogger.

I have a feeling that within about a decade we'll start seeing people who are putting recommendation for different types of journeys/experiences. . . Not like it might be one of us

Sweet. Would you venture to say that misting once daily with your set-up would be too much?
Pan-Cakes:
I've been talking things over with some folks on the side... looks like I need to update my recipe for these. My gut had been telling me coffee was a bad idea, but I've always been told to follow the tek through how it's written before you modify it. Also, I feel like my other contam issues are likely product related, so I'm feeling better about those as well. You live you learn!

The PC time def wasn't an issue I can tell you that much. And even if it was, you would get bacteria, but NOT mold. Mold spores don't survive a simple boil. So that right there can be your guiding light as to what went wrong. I often see people having the misconception that mold spores somehow can survive boiling. They can't.
And even for large grain jars, 1:30 is plenty for sterilization. I never do more.
Good luck figuring out what went wrong, I have been clueless about my contams a couple times before. I know how shitty it feels.

Pay attention to the dumb things like do you touch your phone while you’re doing an ocular Asian work do you have a Vape do you smoke a bowl or is there anyway that you could be accidentally contaminating yourself without realizing it then moisture content has a lot to do with it you can properly sterilize your drain but if the jars are too wet they will eventually contaminate

Why I NEVER! Humph!

Anyways, yeah, I don't touch shit and I hardly breath when working in my SAB. I'm sure I could improve my sterile technique, and always aim to do so, but I'm also pretty sure I live in the apartment from hell for mold, so it's just extra challenging. Flow hood to the rescue soon.
