Remove cap place stipe on clean piece of foil

With sterile blade skim the outer layer of the stipe off all the way down.

Do not use outer tissue, re-sterilize your blade and lift a inner section of tissue careful not to touch the outer layer of the stipe. You need only a small sliver

Well, my oats have liftoff and are moving over to the substrate pretty fucking quick. These photos are a little less than 48 hours after inoculation:

Every single grain fluffed up like crazy w/in about 12 hours and some are even pulling the substrate up in towards the grain with mycelium. It's... kind of amazing. I remember failing at this last November and thinking I'd never get to this point but here I am!

Congrats, Shaper!
I have given up on my Bisporus at this point. Been over a month and no signs of fruiting. Should be plenty starved at this point. Tried everything. Various misting modes. Damaging the surface. NOTHING works!

I haven't, but here's the weird part. First I have tried them, I spawned straight to pasteurized cow shit (not even aged), and got some pins (which aborted). The casing was unpasteurized forest soil compost. They had major trouble colonizing the pure cowshit, but still, pins appeared.
Recently I have tried pasteurized shit + sawdust in approx. 1:1 ratio, and it colonized beautifully and vigorously. Cased with boiled sand. No pins. None.

Good job both Jack and Asura!
Here's still struggling with this species. Can't get 'em to grow up properly. They pin, stay small for several days and then the caps open up a bit with hardly any growth. My best fruit untill now was 1.5 grams fresh.
We really need some automated fog / fanning system in place for these as I don't have the time to do everything by hand. Neither do I even know what to do to make the fruits grow better. Pinning and then stalling is how far I can get with these atm

I can understand no pins at all, but It should be hard to get aborts unless you directly mist. Or if the casing surface dries out.
First time you cased with unpasteurized forest soil, pasteurize it. Second time you used sand. Try not using sand alone as your having a hard time already.
Your probably on the right track with a few tweaks needed... My dirt is sandy, when getting casing material i find its best to actively avoid sand/dirt. Dirt will dry your surface out even faster, and wet sand/mud can make the casing compact.
Try fruiting in small containers and see which casing works best for you. Then get to spawn runs ect.
My 2c; go back to the forest, skip the dirt, get some humus/very broken down leaves, pastuerize it and case.

By the "forest soil compost" I basically meant that. Decayed wood, leaves, etc. But I should have at least semi-pasteurized it, because of bugs and mites and so forth.

ur missing what is in my opinion the most important (well one of at least) ingredients..... straw!!!! pans love the straw cutting straw into my dung is the onlything that has let me get away with such low poo ratios and still get large yields. 86 the sawdust replace with fine chopped straw
