Oats are the most problematic grain I’ve used. I do cut it into my grain in small amounts tho
65% Millet
25% rye
10% steam crimped oats
The pans really seem to like this mix. They really like the Millet but by itself it is hard to work with ive been playing with grain mixes for months & I finally found a mix I’m pretty happy with

Do got a ms tray of pan cyan Texas (w.c) not a super impressive pinset but ms grows often turn out like this I do however have a few excellent clone specimen

Then the ms tray of pan cam Indonesia, this tray is even less impressive but that’s likely because it’s a wild species so I have even more work to do with this strain but again a few good clone specimen.

Then finally the pan hausteca X Australia (venom)
This tray was made by combining a iso of each on a dish until the grow to a intersection then I applied a water moccasin venom & water solution to the intersecting points. The theory Is
Is that The venom deteriorates the cell wall enough that nuclear material passes freely through it however the cell does not die.  The mycelium def appeared to take on a softer mushy appearance a few days after application, I transferred the wedge to a new dish grew it out and made this tray with it . The fruits look similar to the Australian (black spore iso) however these spores appear purple like the hausteca. It’s still to early to tell how well it worked but I have plenty more on the way

Not the most beautiful fruits ever but it's definitely better than round #1

Put the bigger tray in a tub with perlite and pulled out an adjustable heat mat. Towel between tub and mat to divide the extra heat. Seems to work pretty well for evaporation. Weather is very chilly atm and my smaller tubs are all on ambient temp.

Edited to add these pics

This is not enough for us to try yet. More is (well, may or may not be) on the way though. Two bigger trays coming up. Hoping for at least two dry grams per person.

When we try them a tripreport is promised

I wouldn’t say wrong I have had success with oats but it’s true using straight oats will increase contam probability. I do cut 10% oats into my grain mix for pans still. IMO Millet rye and oats is best of all worlds. The pans love Millet & it’s less than half the price of rye, but if you use straight Millet for whatever reason I got more thick white myc (bacterial & overlay) rye works really well but it’s expensive and can easily over hydrate (especially doing large batches the bottom of my bucket is often over hydrated. The oats do have a lot of good nutes it seemed and my all oat jars that didn’t contam did very well but if you use just oats you get a lot of busted grains and tons of Endo spores.
So
For
About $18 I get 50lb of Millet
Another $16 for 50 more lbs of oats
Then $60 for 50lbs of rye berries

So @
65%Millet
25% rye
10% oats
I get 150lbs of optimal grain (as far as I’ve found so far at least) & it’s way cheaper than using straight rye which IMO would be the next best grain for them
