So, first, this man is adorable!
Secondly, is his sterlie technique horrible or is it me? He spawned a moldy cake! Just like "oh, as you can see this is totaly contamiated... let's spawn it before it gets worse!"
I was kinda in shock this whole video. He does everything we kinda say not to (heating pads, spawning moldy grains, etc)... but really it was the sound of glass on glass when he's in his SAB that made me super nervous. Like every time he set down a jar in the aquarium and it goes *CLUNK!* I was waiting for that shit to just shatter.
oh you know what I have seen this. yeah in my experience his tek is most def not optimal. it might work but not super effective. pretty old info

Yeah. Lol This guy was actually the first vid I watched about growing pans. Few weeks before I started. I remember thinking.. This can't be right. Look at how stressed out the guy is working! I honestly thought he was gonna have a heartattack before he could harvest any pans
Glad it turns out to be 'not optimal' bc who wants to work in such a way?!

Congrats on the grow/ pins! When I start to see pins, if anything I increase misting and/or syringe watering- if there are just a few pins here and there- mist the areas that are devoid of pins and syringe water closer to them. A damp appearing case is important to coax pinning. Of course you dont want to water the case to the point of puddles forming- the case can glisten a bit just after watering it but if it still glistens 5' later then it is too wet. Dont mist a whole lot once a day but mist/syringe water moderately at most, but several times a day- especially if evaporation is causing dry corners to appear. When I did a Pan grow in an SGFC, at the point of pinning I watered the case just a bit, but ~every 3 hrs and fanned with the lid after watering. When it comes to getting getting pins wet- if you see shiny (wet) pins you can save them by fanning them, or sopping water up with the tip of a paper towel, as long as you get to them within ~15' of them getting wet. Once the caps turn black they will be lost. When misting I dont worry about pins I can't see yet- you may lose a few but the added moisture and evaporation will more than overcome what you lose.
Pans in an SGFC- I think you have to work harder at it (than with a greenhouse) because of a steeper humidity drop-off from the surface of the case to just a few inches above the case. You want the humidity just at the case to be as close to 100% as possible.
Good luck!

Hello Mary! Thought you might want to see your grandchildren getting cased. (Pan Alabama)
2 different trays. The last one colonized a lot faster then the glas tray. Both cased today.

After seeing so many glas trays of Pan here, finally just having to wait to hopefully get some fruits of my own, is a awesome feeling!

Thank you so much Mary! This is exactly what I was looking for.
We can work with this. So I need to worry less about destroying my pins as long as I do less misting at once, but more often and fan with the lid. The extra pinning it induces will outweigh eventual loss.
This is great to know bc that Jartha is still some months away from being a reality and I (and probably loads of other people) need a low tech tek before we can make the leap
Already re-wet the perlite to get rh up a little

Cant say why your plastic shoebox colonized faster- variables.... Anyway, the trays are nicely cased. At 80F expect ~6 days for pins. Best wishes!

Great, thanks for the fedback my friend I can only have it at 74-75F currently so hope I still get fruits. I know you will not get crazy pinset like you guys if you do not keep the temp HIGH. But hope it's enough for a few fruits atleast. After first flush I will raise the temp.
Currently have cubensis and Tampanensis in my GH so do not want to raise the temps to much.

Yes, of course if you see a pin- try to not get it wet, you can save pins that get wet anyway, otherwise dont worry too much. My first Pan grow was in an SGFC in a very dry room: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23165420. I re-wet the perlite ~ twice a week and fluffed it up to enhance channeling of air thru it. Misted and fanned ~every three hours except at night. More work, but it produced some potent little fellas.

What happens to pans when grown on brf cakes? Do they just abort out? Fail to pin? Just die and rot from not fruiting?
I'm desperately trying to get my hands on bulk prints of varying kinds with no room for anything more than cakes.
Thank you.

Correction: The balls were there b4 but the heart and the brain took a long time aligning.
You are right about the part where we would have been totally lost without the help of those you mentioned though

BRF cake half pint jar grows work GREAT for Pans- you just need some poo in the recipe (if you cant get any poo- try very finely chopped straw). Check on VL's work. I did a Pan bisporus grow here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25095663#25095663 by that format as well.

Thank you so very much. I always wondered why people didn't just add one or the other to brf. I guess someone smart enough finally did

I suspect the verm roll is enough but I didn't do it that way. I kept the cake in the jar and cased the top.
