And this is why nature has placed a difficulty of level 5 on cultivating pans. You have to make it through 4 levels of cubes before you meet the level 5 boss lady.

Substrate is over field capacity. By the time PC'ing is done, the bags are inoculated and grown out, moisture will be perfect.
1900/(1900+675+250+75+100) = ~63% water
For Cubes: the typical water:substrate ratio is 3250/(650+3250)= ~83%
This is a significant difference to obtain field capacity. Is the field capacity for Pans that much less than Cubes?
This is a very specific recipe that produces two spawn bags worth of sub. If you were to mix this up it would probably seem really wet to you if you have been growing lots of cubes. Also, as far as water goes...a total of 240ml of LC will be added to the overall substrate, so it's going to get even wetter.
Thank you Asura. The additional 240 ml LC takes the water % to 68%. From Bodhisatta tip for cube substrate" PROtip: multiply your coir weight by 5 to get your water weight. use the metric system and your water weight is your water volume. This is a water % of 5/6 (83%) for Bodhisatta cube substrate recipe. From Blue Helix tek, he is adamant about 65% water for pan substrate. from ~65% to 83 change in water content seems significant. So my question: is the substrate field capacity for pans less than cubes? I am struggling measuring field capacity using prehydrated straw and manure so trying to meaure the correct amount of water before mixing

Hey Jake I know you wrote the Pan tek to get less questions haha but I have to ask after thinking and messing with my GH today. Im pretty sure both Asura and MF mentioned that constant air movement is important when growing pans. MF recomended I have a PC fan running in the GH or something similar.
Do you take constant air movement in to consideration at all?

No my tek cycles air so the air exchanges every 10 min. now, one of the tents is fed with a o2 condenser and the other has kratom and a few other plants on bottom shelf but during the evaporation stage the air is still. However If I had a separate smaller fan that kicked on during this dry stage that blew hot and dry air constantly the whole time at a much lower power that might make things even better or it would be unnecessary right now I feel like Iāve pushed these trays to the max I couldnāt be much happier with them but could be worth it to try.

Alright, interesting. Reason I ask is because when I have a small fan inside constantly moving air around the humidifier have to kick on a lot more often which I think will lead to flooded trays. I will try my first run without have constant air movement then. Maybe the fan for Fae (like your setup) will be enough. Thanks
@Asura.. Wow! You were not kissing about taking some prints. You rock! Thank you

Pics of my filterbags of directly inoculated substrate. Only used 30 ml per bag, so for next time I'm preparing some more LC .
From the top you can see a patch of myc (I hope lol) in both bags and Last pic is bottom side of the left bag.

So do you guys shake these substrate bags or is it better to just wait till 100pct colonized?
