Still lurking in the background here. Digging all that great info on this thread.
Got some T2 dishes nicely growing out now, I expect to take those to rye around next weekend. Got me some horsepoo from the local stables. Anyone have any ideas how to get this stuff drying? It's been raining heavily for 10 days now and I'll be needing some in about three weeks.
Also trying some lc that I made using the Josex poke. That also needs to grow for one more week.
Wish me luck guys! Got to get us some of those home grown Pans

Finally got me pan cyan prints so I'm super excited to get started.
I'm having real problems with my temps atm though. Even the cubes are suffering a bit

I'm going to give it another week. I have some simple sun dried horse poo sub i'm going to make up today but with hydrated ground rye berries in it to help get it colonized. I ground the rye berries in a mazzer mini coffee grinder...it grinds them right up and does an amazing job.
What type of Pans are you attempting?

I think the rye berries will be a vector for contamination, black kow is okay but will get muddy if over misted. Sundried hpoo is the best in my opinion.

jamaica and i'm working on asura's aussie print on oats
I did basically the same as you. Spawned Jams to 50/50 black cow and coir. Colonized very fast. It was really wet. After casing it, nothing really happened. They mycelium didn't really try to grow up into the casing at all. No signs of pins. It eventually got mold contam on the casing.
I think black kow has very high moisture retention. Has to due to the fact that its cow manure and has a muddy texture. Next attempt, if I use it, I Think I'm going to dry it out a bit before pasteurizing and maybe mix it at 30/70.
I did cubes too on 50/50 BK and Coir as an experiment. Fruited like it was way over field capacity. Not very good results.

I agree with doc on this the right berries in the bulk is too much nutrients you are asking for contamination pans do not need that much nutrient I only cut my Spohn in at a ratio of 1 to 4 I know there are a bunch of other questions I’m a little tight on time I will get back on in a little bit and get with the rest of you Mush Love keep it up

I keep my grain light. Not sure about the exact ratios but I am using 250g of milo for 6ish quarts of substrate total. For reference, that is about half a quart of milo.
I think Blue Helix is the one who started this on the idea that if the pans had too many nutrients they wouldn't want to fruit. It works great is all I know.

That is a good note. So for us that are spawning grain to a pasteurized substrate, maybe cut the ratio way back?
Need to begin working with bags of sterilized substrate. Seems to get a lot better results. And I guess use LCs for inoculation?

Thanks, bookmarked them all. Its time to create a dedicated environment for these guys. And learn some of these new techniques (bags, LC's, fruiting chambers).

Well I finally gave up on the last Aussie tray I did and am going to try some other species. Have some Hawaii Big Island, Aussies from Asura and Bisporus from MaryFairchild in the works!
Asura’s Aussies are germinating nicely.:-)

Ended up doing an LC with the Bisporus. Test plate I did last night is looking promising!

Been trying to out run some bacteria on the Hawaiians, but I think I finally have some clean plates. Really hate working with MS. Never have good luck with them. Wasted an entire syringe of Tropicalis. Everything I inoculated became contaminated. If anyone has a Tropicalis print they can spare that would be awesome. Would hate to have to buy another MS to try.

you wan you manure pile in the sun you want to cook it. the bigger the pile the faster the inside will cook then stir with a skidloader. it should look light fluffy brown even in the rain when its perfect

So here are some pictures of “pan sub tropicalis” lol JK this is the miss labeled print I thought was sub tropicalis I do not know what it is exactly at first it looked like the Australians now it kind of still does but definitely different here are some more pics I also included what a pan tray looks like before and after casing because a lot of times I feel people screw up at the casing stage you should still be able to see white through your casing then another stack of trays I bulked tonight

Hey Jake, I don't think what your are doing is easy- working out the ALL IMPT. grow conditions for the different species of Panaeolus. I'm probably not wording this well cuz we are coming down from a trip- so I'll just say it, I hope i'm not the only one who sees that the kind of energy you have been putting into this thread merits consideration for a TC tag.
Gawww, that last sentence sounded kinda pompous.... but im still trippy anyway!
