Those were just colonizing. I was just playing around.

Hoping for some insight here... I'm thinking / hoping I should've seen some pins by now?
Pan Jam spawned 1:2 ratio (I know now 1:4 is better) cased 8 days ago 98-99% humidity; 78-80* constant; slight breeze looks like I'm getting overlay here? I cased right after colonization on this one and have another tray made at the same time that has been consolidating since that I'm about to case.
Pan Cambo (Sandose) spawned 1:2 like the other cased 8 days ago 98-99% humidity; 78-80* constant; slight breeze The myc appears to have made its way though the casing, but not overtaking it. Not sure which would be better / expected for pans here. Also, no pins. Normal for this timeframe or am I just wishful thinking at this point?

Can not help you with your question. But why does it look like in the first picture like the substrate is pulling away from the sides? Shouldnt be doing that already no?
Edit- Maybe what I see is just an edge of the tray?

Hey 34, it looks like the first tray is going to overlay a little bit. Second pic is picture perfect. Not sure why you aren't getting pins yet.
Here's what I would do, but hopefully Jake and mary will chime in. I'd actually drop the humidity down. Possibly you aren't getting the evaporation rate needed here? It's just a guess. When I did my last grow I dropped the humidity to 92-95 a day before I thought I should have pins...and there they were. If you had the glass trays you would be able to see if the sub was getting too much water. You really only want the casing wet.
Good luck man. Keep us posted.

Do you guys normaly drop your RH before pins or when you first start seeing them?

Lol beat u to the punch by a hair asura but your right drop rh also, I had problems when I tried to run constan air thru my tent. I have my fan kick in and replace all air every 15 min. My fogger kicks on and fills the tent then my fan is set to kick in shortly after it pulls fresh air in thru a hepa up top and down and out the bottom. On its way out the air drives the fog into ur casing (rehydration) after the fan kicks off the air in the tent is dry approx rh 70-85 (evaporation stage) then the fogger kicks back on and the cycle repeats.
Ps the first 2 days I put trays into FC I keep rh at 99. I try to time new trays with the harvest of existing trays so they are all on the same page.

That's actually the edge of the tray. They're takeout food containers and the upper edge kind of flares out a bit and then upwards for where the lid meets. I haven't seen any shrinkage so far.

You should drop when you see pins or if you have waited too long for pins. Pins should appear 5-7 days after casing.
Edit: You can't just arbitrarily follow this either. If you aren't getting proper evaporation your subs will get water logged with high RH. You want RH but you also need a high rate of evaporation. I know, because I've fucked up plenty of trays to learn this

Interesting - so you're basically cycling out humidity and then evaporation constantly?

And how do I make sure I have high evaporation? Constant air movement, good fae?
Should say I have a GH

Not answering for Jake, but just want to point out there is more than one way to skin a cat. Jake's figured out how to make perfect conditions for pans. He cycles the fresh air. I have constant fresh air being piped in through a 4" duct hose. You just do whatever it takes to get the high rate of evaporation and high humidity.
@Puduwoke
I know I have a high rate of evaporation because I can look at the sides of my trays and not see any water making its way down the sides and my casing layer will start to dry out even with the high RH. I actually have to water the casing with a syringe after pins to keep it all from drying out.

I wonder for those who are using an Inkbird like myself, whether using the differential parameter on the RH would effectively create a similar cycle that Jake is talking about. Right now I have it set to 1.5% meaning it will provide mist until the set point, wait until it drops 1.5% and then kick the humidifier back on. By playing with this setting you can presumably re-create this same humidification / evaporation cycle...
On a separate but related note, even with the RH set to 99% I started to get some dry spots around the edge of my tray when my fan was set a bit higher than it is now. I misted and turned down my fan to prevent this, but this may be actually (part of) what I needed.

Exactly it may just be that the air is dryer in my house so cycling works better I know I’m getting evaporation because the trays don’t fill with water and my fogger kicks on for 4.5 min every 15. (This is constantly changing with the rh if the air being sucked into the tent. The evaporation for me takes place not when the fan is on but when the trays are sitting in the hot dry air the fan just sucked in. But the fan is actually rehydrating my sub when it’s running
As for the dry spots that’s why I have my system set this way without the fan pulling the air down and out the fogg mostly misses the trays and collects on the walls and floor of tent the fan pulls the fog down into the tray ( I still check and occasionally need to hand hydrate)
