would this recipe work for cubes as well jake? i know this is not a pan question but i have a couple PEU jars ready and it would be easier to use the same sub.

As you can see from the pic, no. If anything, they may be a tad dry.

I was gonna say dry. Some of mine came out dry and stalled, or I thought they stalled. Shook the hell out of it and it started colonizing again

Yea I have this bad habit of preparing grains on the dry side. Oysters don't mind though. But it does slow down all mycelia.

Just noticed some of the myc is bruising in a corner of my Aussie tray. Too dry?

Can’t wait for my GH to get here tomorrow so I can setup a more controlled environment.

I didn't even look at the picture... considered editing to say "hydration was off" but left it as too wet is a more common slip up it seems... suppose to dry would do it too... now do you mean like not boiled long enough to reach max internal hydration, or the outside is too dry? I thought you wanted the outside dry... what grain do you guys prefer?

I use very little grain. I consider it supplemental. I don't grow these like cubes at all. This gives you an idea.

Thanks Asura. Sub is hpoo : coir : verm ~ 1:1 spawn:sub ratio. Started my casing today so it will be ready. Casing is 50/50 ~ peat/coir with a little verm.
I’ve been working on dialing in my field capacity and actually had to add a little water this time. That’s why I was asking if it could be too dry.
Probably give it another day or two then case. GH arrives tomorrow and I just got an Inkbird digital humidity controller to go with my wicking and ultrasonic humidifiers. No more playing around, lol.

Maybe some others can chime in but your stuff looks good. It's not like cubes. You will case your pans and you want that casing to stay WET. You keep the humidity high. You want the temps high. You want to create a lot of evaporation. And that can dry out your casing. Just water with a syringe. Whatever you have to do to keep the casing wet.
Looks great to me.

This and that link u posted were exactly what I needed to see...
I'm giving the sterilized thing a go too with a Pyrex bowl I have. That was done with lc, and surprisingly looks good.

With that said, should the casing be a little over FC when I put it on? Just added CaCO3 to bring my pH up.

Just put the casing on and mist it really, really well. Soak it. Mind you, this only works if...
1) The temps are kinda high 2) Evaporation is happening 3) You keep adding water to the casing as it evaps away
Good luck buddy!
Edit: When you make your casing, it can be at FC. When you apply it, give it a good mist.
