I have it for pickling, so I'll just keep it where it is for that (the bag says lime... so I thought I'd give it a shot to ask). Jesus I had no idea it was so dangerous!

I mean I use HL all the time but I add it slowly and am pretty good at getting it

I use calcium hydroxide in my casing recipe, but in minuscule amounts.
.6g (dont overlook that decimal like my buddy did) takes 5 quarts of casing from 7.2 to 7.7.
@shaper You can't use those cheap garden meters to measure pH. You need something like this: http://www.milwaukeeinstruments.com/site/products/products/standardportable-meters/80-products-g-standard-portable-meters-g-mw101

wow. i stand corrected. it can be used, with extreme caution. 600mg to make a 5dB pH increase in 5qts of casing material sounds about right. not sure i trust my scale so much. impressive, y'all.

Yeah it's crazy strong. Even Blue Helix will say it's an optional ingredient if you don't have a real pH meter.

i measured before. processing shouldn't change it much.
look for rogerrabbit's pasteurization process. if i had a sous vide, i'd use it.

garden lime is calcium carbonate. CaCO3. eggshells are also almost entirely CaCO3. as an observational experiment, i used powdered eggshells to buffer some jiffy mix (mostly peat) to use for a tiny cube project i have underway. test strips indicated success, and that project is pinning nicely right now. (i know, cubes don't need casing, but i want the experience)
ah good to know. I'd read in the past that eggshells were slower to change ph than straight lime and therefore assumed it wouldn't work well for mush cult stuff. glad to hear this isn't the case.

the one on the left looks good I cant really see the one on the right. my pan mycelium much thinner and wispy-er (except pan cam and pan trop) however I use low nute agar for gene isolation, but it def looks like mycelium you got there you should be good to go

None of my Aussie looks like that. It's more wispy.
Edit...pulled this out of cold storage. The plates I use for LC are lighter.

Hey Jake, I'm curious how loose u keep ur poly? I'm about to modify a tub for pans and I'm assuming it needs to be pretty loose?

it depends on the air flow in the room. you want the poly on the ends of your tub (up high) looser than the side holes on the bottom this allow air(o2 rich) to flow in more freely up high and push your co2 out bottom. if you have a fan in room you want it to blow primarily toward the high end holes. here is a diagram of what the mono tub design is trying to accomplish (I have a humidifier in drawing it is not necessary but certainly makes life easier if you want constant evap)

Hmm. All I have is a small ultrasonic but I didn't wanna mess around with that just yet.
There's like no air flow in here so ima have to figure this out.. the only fan I have is way too powerful, I'll have to go get a smaller one.

yea or don't point it at the tubs as long as air is moving around the room the design (if polyfill done correctly) will do its job. I don't know what kind of space ur working with. and that's what I use for my tub humidifier a ultra sonic reptile fogger
