Depends. Giving away for free? Send them all. Using for trades? Only the dark ones.

Yeah, I'm giving them all away. I ended up with 21 out 32 attempts I won't be sending anything out that I don't think will work.
When I get back in town, I'll offer them up here. You guys get first dibs.

shroomms said: 1. For Pan Cyan Jam, does it matter how the spawn is mixed into the substrate. Is layering better than just crumbling the spawn and mixing it with the substrate?
2. Is horse poo different than cow poo, for pan cyans, besides the fact that horse is easier to work with?
3. SWIM plans on using a fish tank air pump (~950gal/hr) with 6 adjustable output ports to provide FAE to a 50gallon container, assuming 2 air exchanges per hr are needed for pan cyan, is it best to use this pump for 100gal/hr flow rate? Or is it better to use more air?
4. SWIM so far has yet to get a fruit; but has learned along the way and got germination on agar, transferred a few times, went from agar to rye berry, rye berry to rye berry, rye berry to horse poo (and cow poo substrates) and has yet to get it to fruit. So far i'm on the cow poo substrate day 14 and it seems only half way done consolidating the poo. It seems I had better luck with the horse poo since it had fully consolidated. Previously, i was using a warm air mister to provide humidity, and recently got a vick's cool mist and boy does the ultrasonic coolmist work well compared to the warm air humidifier. With the warm air I only had at most 74%RH; now i can get to 100%RH. This and too little FAE might explain why I didn't have luck with the horse poo. For heating, I have a water bed heater covering the bottom of the container connected to a temperature controller (I also have the option of a space heater too for heat). I might have a better write up of my setup in another post but this is a summery of what i'm working with. More details below: I have 2 small computer fans circulating the air in the container (one in the top left and one in the bottom right blowing air counter-clockwise and into the inlet of the coolmist, which is in the bottom right). I think the fans help maintain constant temps and humidity throughout the container. The consolidating substrate is raised up about 5 inches above the fans and waterbed heater. The temperature controller is tuned to the system. The temperature stays within 1 oF. The cool mist is actually turned up to the maximum on the device and controlled with an on and off timer using and arduino the controls a SSR. It's set to have 1 sec ON and 6000 sec OFF to produce 96%RH; i'm still tuning it though to be able to set a desired humidity level. I wasn't going to post all this yet but I couldn't help myself. I have 2 20W daylight 6500K lights that i'll run 12/12. The lid of my container is greenhouse film to diffuse the light and hopefully make the mushrooms happy. Below are some pics. I'll keep you guys updated, but I think i'm going to have to start over and use horse poo because this cow poo is just not colonizing very well. The substrate is just 50/50 cow poo/vermiculite with 5% gypsum all by volume. The spawn is rye berries and so far i've had good luck with agar stuff and the rye berries, but after that I've been having trouble. I've had my best luck with horse poo that was just fresh collected and then dried in the sun, blended with vermiculite added water to field capacity and pasteurized for an hr at 150oF. The same procedure was used in the cow poo but the pasteurization got up to 190oF. May the cow poo needs ground better. I have a small ballmill i might use to grind up the cow poo better (it might work to grind it). What do you guys think. Man so far these i think are much tougher to grow than cubes. I've never had trouble with them with the pf tek...always grows for me. The pan cyan seem more sensitive to me. Oh, I had another question but can't remember it now. Now that i have a proper fruiting chamber, maybe they're fruit. I've never had trouble with contamination either...only if I let it go for too long. Oh, and the fruiting chamber is tilted and raised up so that any condensation will drip through a hole in the bottom and drain into a bucket (still dialing in the humidity though). What I've got in the last two pics is my cow poo substrate on day 14. What do you guys think?

shroomms, I don't know if this would work or not. All I can tell you is the fruiting parameters I use.
My temps are ~75-78 at all times and I maintain this using a temp controller.
My RH is is 95-97% until first pins and I maintain this using a humidity controller.
FAE is constant.
When pins appear I drop RH to 92-95%.
I keep the casing layer of the trays WET. Once I have pins I am periodically watering the casing with a syringe.
I use a bucket fogger for RH but I have a lot of evap going on so my surface still loses water.
Did you case? Because that is important.

I'm on my way to being a regular....
Also, will this lime work okay as a buffer in casing?

Hey folks,
Can someone throw me a link to a good Pan Cyan tek that uses mono tubs? I have the basic parameters, like given by Asura on the post before. Just looking for a detailed, tried and true method in mono tubs. I have some good agar plates that are in the process of being cleaned up, but everything looks good, so time to get the ball rolling! I'm making the assumption that I can make spawn with oats like cubes. I have searched and searched, I know the info is there, but far more scattered than with Cubes
The help is extremely appreciated.

if you find it, let me know. by the looks of things, best results are had in the greenhouse.
see stonesun's links.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13558505 just as easy as cubes series. pans in a tub. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15268131

My first 4 pan grows used stonesun's method...problem is...they aren't as easy as cubes. I never got good results.
I would try MacMerdin's Pan Cakes instead.

asura, could you describe your greenhouse arrangement? or point to a resource you found helpful for setting one up. i have ideas, but they might be... shortbus style. as general or specific as you care to be.

The paneolus print I got from a sponsor was pretty light, like barley visible. But there were still plenty of spores for a petri, I still have that print and should try to grow them again.

Yeah I mean spores are spores in my book, fretting over how dark it is seems to mostly be an aesthetic concern. So long as you tell people they're light from the get-go all is well.

I was going to do a write up on it when get back into town. It's nothing I would recommend. And it's very specific to my house. My fruiting chamber is in a small bathroom that is never used as a bathroom and has been meticulous cleaned 10x over.
My humidity source is that big blue bucket. There is a 3-disc pond fogger in the bucket. There is a 4" duct fan that is always on (the one one the bucket lid). It's controlled by a willhi controller.
Not shown is a heater that is hooked up to a temp controller.
(not growing pans in these pics)

mary would be a better person to ask because she has a setup that would be easier for anyone to replicate and she gets better results than me.

wow. i mean, kick ass. climate controlled shower stall. so easy to clean between projects, right? thanks so much for posting that! it's clearly working well for you. was it much trouble to get it dialed in, or does your controller setup pretty much cover it?

I'm not going to lie...I'm not sure it's dialed in. It took several months just for me to get a feel for what was going on. It's a lot of work. I have to check everything several times a day. It's not "set and forget".
But yeah clean up is great

nice. well i say what, if i follow thru with my current sketch, .. i don't know what. strong suspicion it's not gonna work at all, dialed or otherwise.

regardless, your recent work speaks for itself. outstanding.

Well I hope everyone here that's currently trying will keep trying. I have been giving it an "honest go" for a little over a year now and it just paid off for me. Pans don't come easy....as near as I can tell anyway.

A tale of three shoe boxes (pan trop).
One is pinning beautifully, other two in various states of over lay. I think a larger container might suit a contained grow better for this strain. Will wait and see what they yield.
