Done (fresh as just picked), just waiting for take off I hear that's a reasonable dose for this strain.

Tray #1 Pan Cyan Australia coming along! Haven’t cased yet but it shouldn’t be too much longer🙃

Sub’s pasteurizing for the Aussie bag I’m going to spawn tonight!

Trying to decide what to do with this plate. It’s a PCA transfer that got knocked over and the wedge rolled to the edge of the plate. Now everywhere the wedge touched has blown up with myc. Already took 3 transfers but I think I should either spawn or make an LC with it. Healthy myc with no contaminants.

Lastly a couple pics of my T6 Aussie plates from about 36 hrs ago. Finally getting heavier and looking more uniform.

Thanks buddy,, ill resist the temptation to digress this thread, but then contradict myself by saying I think I have a high tolerance so whist it was a valuable self counselling session, I think I could go much deeper so I'll probably go for double next time.. That's just my personal take/preference If anyone is interested

mary fairchild said: You could do coco & verm for the case. Peat is more inert than coir, ideally you want the case to be devoid of nutrition so its safer to use peat. Coir increases chance of getting a contamination in the case but not by much. IDK, it depends on how risk averse you are.
That's all i've been doing with my casing layer for my cubes, and (knock on wood) I haven't had any contams so far doing it that way. So if I case with 1:1 Coco:Verm, basically i'm doing this exactly like my cubes. Only difference is that i'm adding Hpoo in place of most of my CVG in the sub... Interesting.
Also, in regard to the casing materials, if you want a non-nutritious casing layer, why not use just plain verm? This has had me confused for quite some time.
And do you case it at spawn or after a period of colonization? I'm assuming at spawn would be better to avoid contams, right?
Why use peat in the case? a big reason is tradition- the use of peat is taken from button mushroom growers and it also works. Peat gives the case a more soil like consistency than verm alone. The addition of verm (the 50/50+ recipe) actually came later- Riche Hawke. I never tried verm alone but i'm sure somebody has at some point but since you dont see verm alone being used regularly its probably not optimal.
For the grow path you are doing- like a typical cube grow you mix your grain spawn with substrate in a tray or tub or what ever you are using. I always do my Pan grows in trays- so following the standard path you want the spawn to colonize the substrate completely before you add the casing layer and take it to fruiting conditions. So you add the case when you want to shift the mycelia to fruiting conditions.
Actually, I've decided to go ahead and order peat moss. So i'll stick with the recommended method here of Peat/verm 50/50 with a dash of calcium carbonate.

Getting close to casing this tray of Aussies! Going to use peat/verm/CaCO3 as well.

Inoculated a 1 lb myco bag of rye berries with a Tropicalis MS today. Need to make some more agar then I’ll inoculate some plates.

Inoculated a couple plates and started an LC of some Bisporus from print today.

A lot going on but loving every minute!

It depends upon what I'm growing, p. Cubensis can handle a wide range of temps, usually room temperature with the central heat/air set on 72f, I have no problems.
With finicky species, I use a small ceramic heater in the room with a humidifier, never heat the substrate with a heat pad or anything, its room temperature you want to control.
If you grow weed, put your tubs in the grow room, I have a friend that uses the heat from his grow light during the day and a small room heater at night.

Yeah they have grown in a bunch more since the pic. I'm fruiting two more trays tonight, too.

Thank you! It does feel pretty good. Not quite what I wanted, but I am very pleased.

I am working on a huge write up that I will post after the holidays. It's meant to be a "I never wanted to learn this much about pans" type post. I will go into excruciating, mind numbing detail.
Stay tuned!
