Hi BB, When I did Pan cy Aussies I did a different protocol (looks like you're doing grain to a bulk substrate) so its kinda comparing apples to oranges. I did LC-> sterilized substrate that was a mix of horse poo to a small amount of wild bird seed- so a very lean substrate: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.phpCat=0&Number=25243163&page=0&vc=1#25243163
Your way typically a 1:2 to a 1:4 volume grain spawn to volume of substrate ratio is used. If you want to be adventurous you could also try a lean substrate- ~a 1:8-> 1:10 v/v. For more info on how I did Jams by "spawn to bulk" (the way you have your grow set up now) see here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24820407
BTW- nice start with the plates!

Whats the difference between pan bisporus and pan cyan? Are they similar in potency/ fruiting conditions?

Awesome. Thanks Mary!
Any idea why one is bleaching the coloring and one isn’t? Just curious.

Different genetics generating different enzymes?- just a guess. I never use food coloring so i'm not too up on that.

Different species of Panaeolus-
Relative potency levels- The subject is debated, my take is that there is a lot variation in potency levels WITHIN each species- so too much overlap to tell for sure. I thought the Bis that I grew was at least among the most potent Pan- but it could have just been the genetics I ended up with in that particular grow. Not enough to convince me that bisporus is consistently the strongest.
As far as fruiting, the strains of bisporus in the states at least were from a more temperate climate than some of the cyans so may tolerate fruiting at cooler temperatures. I grew mine at 80F, but others have grown them in the 70's.

I’m attempting to fruit bisporus in the low 60s F, fingers crossed they can do something!

Sweet! Mine will be in the mid 60s too! U think small monos or small trays would be better for these?

I've had good luck with small trays, but be honest I have not tried many large panaeolus grows, I only need enough fruit for the microscope and to share with a few old timers. Panaeolus bisporus and pan. trop have been consistently more potent than say pan. Cyan in my experience.

Figured I’d post this in here as well.
Thoughts on DFA? Need to make up some more agar tonight if possible and was thinking about using a new recipe. I don’t have any dex or malt extract. My Pan. Cyan Australia T4’s are almost at the edge of the plate😬. They’ve grown fast over the last couple days, would hate to lose all this work.
I’m open to other storage recommendations as well just in case I can’t make the agar.

Thanks,
BB

Poorgar, haft strength grain soak(boil) an a couple handfuls of good manure sifted first now that i think about it so u dont have to strain big peices. (I keep my manure moist so it keeps breaking down unless its sunny then it bakes bone dry )

I do 9g MEA/500ml water agar for all pans and it works fine. I only mention that because you don't need anything fancy to grow things out on a plate.
If you want to store that plate, double wrap with Parafilm and put it in a ziplock in your vegetable crisper. By double wrap I mean cut 2 squares, fold that in half and wrap the plate. It will keep for months. When you want to use again make transfers to a new plate. I have shit loads of pan plates stored this way. Mine are in an insulated lunch box though.

I'm back again after I scrapped my pan cyan project and bought a pan trop syringe and out of a big batch of multi spore inoculations, below is the only one that didn't go bacterial (I waa experimenting with manure in the grains _ even after over two hours in the PC, expect high bacteria rate). The accidental benefit of third experiment is that I've naturally selected a strong strain that overcame bacteria where others didn't, I hope. I spawned it only a few days ago and it's running really fast. Got home to some overlay today. It's in the prize spot over the radiator.

I'm just going to add that this is the closest I've got to pans and I'm very excited. Really aggressive growth.

What did u do exactly? U mixed shit in ur grain spawn?
Abd why the fuckkkkkkkk is there rocks in there? Lol dude make proper grain spawn, sift ur manure, and cut it with something like coir or verm when u use cow manure or whatever that is.

Awesome. I thought once they reached the edge of the plate they were no good. Had a friend mention slants as well but for a different species. Would they work on Pans?
I need to get some ME and parafilm. In the meantime would Saran Wrap work?
Thanks!

Broke up my Aussie spawn bag last night and it seems to be recovering well! Looks like there are green spots in the pics but it’s just staining from the food coloring I used in the agar.
