2nd generation agar plate started from MS. Should I go for another transfer? Or should I just drop a wedge on some oats now? I've read that you don't really need to isolate pans and that you only need clean growth. Let me know what you guys think!

I'm gonna spawn the fully colonized oats to a mix of hpoo/chopped straw/verm/and some gypsum. Then after it's colonized, I'll case with some jiffy mix at a very thin layer and fruit immediately. I'll be using some small trays in my SGFC. The depth will be about 1.5".

Pardon me for not reading all 32 pages, but I have a Pan cambodginiensis (Thailand, Goliath) MS syringe I'd like to get to agar this week. Is MEA acceptable or does this species prefer a different nutritive media? I've been reading that this species is a little more challenging on agar. Any tips?
My plan, once I get there, is agar wedge or possibly LC to oats. I'm loving the oats!
I'm still researching where if like to go from there, but in the meantime I don't want this syringe to go bad. I'm saving my Pan bisporus print for spring.

MEA is fine. The main difference from cubes is pans like a thin sub depth of 2" or less, a manure based substrate, more FAE, they require casing layer and don't like to be misted. Your syringe will stay viable fir a long ass time.

Great! I just poured 30 plates. It's my preferred media. One of the easier ones to make, easy to pour, and seems to perform better than some of the others I've tried. Although, I haven't tried PDA with fresh potatoes. Something tells me that makes a huge difference.

I like PDA with potato flake just fine. Dog food agar is great too.

So I can put something like a shallow litter pans in my monotubs with my spawn and let them colonize in there prior to casing? Since they require more FAE does it make more sense to fruit them in a greenhouse rather than with a lid?

My clones are on PDA plates now and are doing fine. I just feel like the mycelium liked the MEA a little more. More aggressive growth, more consistently. Maybe it's just in my head. Even after boiling my water prior to mixing the potato flakes in, the agar sometimes looks a little granular too.
