I cultured some coplandia spores the other day and I'm gonna try to see if they will colonize verm and worm castings. More or less just an experiment thought I'd throw it out there.

The more experiments the better. Will that be with LC?
I'm about to test my first pan cyan LC on a batch of rye hydrated in manure and coffee grains later today.
The ones in my incubator that were gtg from initial agar inoculation are looking good. Almost ready to spawn.
Exciting times.

No I have a few petris of Copelandia and I found some worm castings while I was cleaning my basement. So instead of just getting rid of the castings I made up some of 1/2 pint jars.

Will worm castings be enough nutritionally for Pan Cyans? that looks interesting for cake mix to replace BRF (Which I dont like working with that much)

I'm not sure if it will be nutritionally sufficient. I doubt it, but we will see, I hate throwing things away sometimes so I'm trying to find a use for the castings. The cakes look pretty good though and it was pretty easy to work with. But I don't think there is enough energy there to do much.

Panaeolus is finicky in my experience, I'm curious to see what happens, good or bad I hope you post the results.

interesting, I would have assumed soil to be contam city. But I suppose potting soil is typically pasteurized before bagging.
Just got a pan syringe and I refuse to fail this time as I always have in the past. Planning to do only cakes until I can at least get some backup prints.
Was going to do the macmerdin mix but now maybe I'll try some soil ones since I dislike sourcing manure. You recommend? First time you've done this or..?

I didn't know that they could utilize rice flower but I'll try that too.

If you can get some chicken poop or horse or cow poop you have more success, I have used all 3 at separate times with excellent results, 50% poo, 40% coco coir 10% vermiculite works well.

Hi folks! First time posting in this thread.
I have some pan cyan aus that I’m cleaning up on agar (MS). So far, so good.
Picked up some hpoo today for free from a local stable. Much of what I got had bedding mixed in. Do you think this will be problematic - should I sort through it for the poo nuggets or can I just assume the bedding will be fine as part of the substrate?
Also, any thoughts on using shredded field straw/hay (grass and alfalfa) versus a specific type of hay/straw (oats, wheat, etc) as sub material?

By bedding do you mean hay and straw? If so it'll be okay, pasteurize it all together. When you say stable, is this field poo or stall poo? I've never used stall poo but I hear it can be pretty nasty stuff. Make sure what you have is dry and aged, doesn't stink, smells like grass at the most.

Yes, it’s stall poo...I could always ask if I could collect from their fields though. And yeah the bedding is hay/straw.
Maybe this batch can just go in the compost heap and I can source the poo differently....I still have plenty of time before my agar cultures are clean

Get it from the pasture, manure in the stalls doesn't get rained on or hit by the sun to help rinse out the ammonia, urine, and other bad stuff. And it doesn't smell when its been sitting in the pasture for a week or two.

Good to know! Is there any appreciable difference in using horse versus cow poo? I’m more likely able to find pasture cow poo easily

I've never used cow poo, but I'll tell you what I do know. Breaking up a cow patty compared to horse poo is gonna be messy and more difficult.

Hey Cthulhu, don't even mess with the stall stuff. Just go back and get it from the field.
