Thanks fellaz!
Panaeolus Cyanescens Aus clone is the variety. That's a monotub of crumbled PF material in bag spawned to pasteurized horse manure/verm/gypsum, cased with some good ol' 50/50+. Nothing fancy. Thanks for asking.

Looking awesome
What do you guys think of this? 1:3 grains to cow poo CVG about 10 days ago. Not sure how well the cow poo is colonizing tbh or when I should case.

These images show a 16qt tub 11 days after spawning pan cyan rye grain to hpoo/verm/gypsum.
I didn't break up my spawn well so you can see I've got these lumps everywhere, that are 1/4"–1/2" high in places (my spawn was 2.5 months old, and very soft so I was worried about breaking it up).
My question: I want to apply my 50/50+ casing tomorrow, planning to make it around 1/4" thick. However, do I make it 1/4" thick along the contours of my substrate lumps? Or do I make the surface of the casing even, in effect this would result in uneven casing thickness (parts being thinner than 1/4", other parts being thicker than 1/4").
My instinct is to make the casing run along the contours of the substrate, because I feel that it's important that pan cyan casings are not thicker than 1/4". But this is only my 2nd pan cyan grow, would really appreciate some wisdom
My substrate depth is 2".
See my log for prior details

This is great, thanks! So I'm getting from this post that the thinner the casing layer, the better. In the wild, the grass tufts act as a casing layer – they minimize the flow of air around the mycelium and create more humid surface conditions than normal. Therefore, one should need very minimal casing layer to replicate this, to create sufficient surface humidity. Especially in a plastic tote, which would have less airflow than a pasture. ?

That's what I gathered too. I also gathered that for Copes, making the casing bumpy is more beneficial as opposed to making it even (pics after I get into the fruiting room)

Super, thank you for the advice . Here are is a pictures showing just before I applied the casing, and after. I kept it thin and very loose ... just kind of crumbled it on top. As you can see, I didn't worry about some lumps of mycelium poking through. Maybe I should cover these though, based on your thoughts ..? I'm guessing the casing depth is between 1/8 and 1/4 inch in most places (except for those exposed areas of course).

That's sexy hamloaf. The way the white looks like a thick fungus fog oozing up in places looks neat.
Looks like I'll be spawning a few trays tomorrow. Here's hopin

super, thanks! With your current grow (above), how long did you let the casing consolidate before putting into fruiting conditions? Or, what did it look like when you put it into fruiting conditions? I'm reading that 18–24 hours is a good casing consolidation time

No, nothing like that. No need to let the casing consolidate. You'll run into overlay problems if you let your casing consolidate.
Let the bulk substrate consolidate for 6 days after full colonization is reached, then case, and introduce into fruiting immediately after casing. The myce will move into the casing somewhat, and begin fruiting.

Im very new to this and Ive got a bit of a different question that i cant find a definitive answer with searching, im hoping someone can set me straight... Long story short, i incoculated 6 brf pf cakes (with no manure, just water, verm and brf) with an unknown spore, assuming it was p.cube, turns out it was pan cyan, all 6 jars have colonized and looking good, and ive got a load of manure/straw compost coming my way with some helpful advice from a very knowledgable freind in a few weeks to use, but im very impateient and want to get a few fruits asap, so im trying to find the quickest easiest method to get one jar fruiting and save the other 5 for bulk. I have read multiple teks but am confused as what to do as there is no manure in the cake. Ive been told that i can just take the lid off and leave the layer of dry verm on top of the jar and place the jar in a shotgun chamber with wet perlite, will this work?
