Hi pplz.
[noob alert!]
What's the time frame (minimum to maximum) after you smear an agar plate with Pan Cyan (Jamaica) spores from a print? How long does it take on average before you get mycelial growth that's prolific enough to transfer to a grain jar?
I waited 2 weeks and typically got this on a bunch of 10cm petri dishes:

At first, I thought they'd stalled, but I read somewhere that it could take much longer than 2 weeks.
How long should I wait before I just can them and start all over again?

At least 24 more hours. Looks skinny how mine were in shoeboxes but still great pinsets and clone material

To me, when I harvest depends on what I want them for. These look ready to harvest for drying, making clones or bio-assay. For prints I let caps open and flatten out more- when I start to see some blackening on stems and understory caps- ie. spore drop- they are ready for printing. Most of yours don't look ready for printing yet.
What variety cyans are these?

the 17th.. not as long as i thought. the last few days its been 90f so my grow area has been high 70s.
my cubes do not show any noticeable changes but the pans sure as shit give me the impression they like the higher temps. as others say
3days ago
 today

of course its purely observational

For sure pans prefer higher temps than cubes in all stages of growth. 1:6 is a little low. Are you planning on allowing for a consolidation period?

...i am now
honestly it didnt occur to me because i knew the brf ratio was low so consolidating a 'low' nutrient sub might be pointless??
im probably confusing my concepts tho. i do plan on fruiting it as is with a casing layer sooo..???

Nah, you're correct in your thinking over the concept of consolidation. The more nutritious the substrate, the longer the mycelium takes to digest/consolidate it.

I was digging through some old pan cyan grow logs and saw this comment by RR:
Quote:
RogerRabbit said: Very nice. Yes, consider a 1 1/2" substrate depth maximum for copes. I really don't know why either, but every time I tried for a thicker substrate, they would colonize ok, but simply sit there and not fruit. I usually go with a 1/4" casing layer, but I see your 1/8" is doing fine. I've also had better pinsets by not pasteurizing the casing layer with this species. Just mix it up and lay it on.
RR
That's a 10 year old post though. Can anyone confirm if this is true about not pasteurizing the casing for pans? Anyone try this and care to share results?
I actually have a batch of casing that I just put on the stove 10 mins ago so i'm considering taking it off.

ill post pics if it does anything but i just dumped the last of my questionable pan spawn into some flower pots w/compost n dirt. the first cube i grew was a contaminated cake i buried so maybe my first pan will be similar. history does repeat itself
