You can use quart jars, no problem!
Panaeolus isnt sluggish at all.. They're the fastest spp. I've dealt with. Galindoi & the Mexicanas are the slowest. IME
Ive never experienced a "halting" pan either.. && my place stays at ambient room temperature (60-74°F) If your culture is stalling then it wasn't clean to begin with. Pan's require higher tempatures during fruiting (80°F) for an optimum pinset.

Don't you use rye? I use oats.. I've heard in multiple sources grass lovers like mexicana and edible wood lovers perform the best with oats. It could be that the pans having trouble going through the oat hulls.. But as you can see, the pans are about the same amount of colonisation as the cubes in those pics. Very interesting!

Awesome! This thread piqued my interest. Thank you for making it. I'm looking into some spores now.

Interesting indeed!
&& I use oats, grass seed, and rye. Ive never noticed them having issues with the hull. From what I've observed they don't even try to go through the hull they just engulf the entire grain.

Have you guys grown P. bisporus? I have a print and I'm considering getting started with it. Definitely considering an outdoor setup for this run. Temps should be perfect!

Hey Kalistis..
I haven't personally, but I know MacMerdin has in the past..
Its about to get pretty cold soon so I dont think an outdoor bed would be in your best interest,
Now is the time to fruit woodlovers outdoors

The temps here aren't that cold. We are still in the 90's and it's October! I suppose the nights could get chilly...Last year it stayed in the 60's overnight until December then dropped to 50's. But I hear you. I'll start researching my options through the winter. I want to keep busy with new experiences! I'm considering trying some edibles too.

rbalzer said: this used to happen to me when I shook too...maybe you had hidden contams from the MS that were spread by shaking
I think, but idk man. This is the 2nd time ive made jars and this happened, from different syringes.
The reason I shook is because it was taking FOREVER to colonize, like 3 weeks to get 40%, so I said fucking it and shook.

Mad Season said: Weird. Yeah I know mine are healthy. They're slower than cubes on grain and then fuckin colonize my manure trays in less than 2 days.
All of these were dropped into jars 15 days ago:Quote:
Mad Season said: Quick update time! Lots of stuff is almost done! Cubes/pans will be getting a shake soon tho..
Shiitake:
Reishi:
Mexicana:
Cubensis (Albino A+ and peu):
Pan cyan:
I love growing different species and comparing them. I can't get over the aggressiveness of the edibles and mexicana.. Now I can see why people say we should be recommending mexicana to newbies lol
Like I said mad, mine were colonizing grains slow as fuck, im thinking it could maybe because they are too wet? I colonize cubensis just fine though with the same steps.
Im wondering though, pint jars? cool. I happened to buy some for LC but maybe I can use them for spawn? you use like 3 or 4 for a tray?
also, ive purchased some millet and corn to use for spawn just to mix things up. Either work for you guys consistently?

More like 1 or 2 jars per tray have yet to do 3. I might tho very soon I got some fully colonised jars I got lying around that need some spawning. Not enough time lol
As for your grains they looked very bacterial and wet (like you said). That's why it was slow lol.
