I like your setup! I have some extra tubs that I don't mind punching holes in, and an extra aquarium heater.

What temp do you try to get your water to?

What's weird is that I have a tub connected to the same fogger, side by side, with spawn from the same agar plate, that isn't doing much at all. Although the substrate was prepped a little differently so I will have to dig in to that and see if that is why. The under field capacity + drenched top layer at spawn tub is the one taking off. No casing for either.



One more question if ya'll have the time. For the tub pictured above, I don't have much to lose here so I am going to experiment. I want to add a casing, so do you think I should drop a thin layer right on top, or should I try to scrape the surface off first (don't love that idea)? It doesnt look like overlay currently, but I'm not sure why only a few pins are coming up, because this tub looked great during colonization and even had pins forming underneath.



And Noah, I bought an aquarium heater a few weeks ago but have yet to try it out. I'll probably add an air stone and do the JCM method when I finally try it. 

  Based on my experience, the main issue seems to be direct airflow on wet fruits and forced air movement in general, unless it is properly designed, such as in a JSM setup. However, I find the pump used in those systems annoyingly noisy.

With passive air exchange, they do not abort after misting. The temperature of the water used for misting may also play a role, although I am not entirely sure about that.

Since I stopped using fans, the problem has disappeared, and they have been doing fine with regular misting ever since.

This was straight cv+, no worm castings.  Actually doubled up on both ferts.  They do seem a bit smaller than usual.. that might be why (as per Mojavemyc)

I found some XXL ziplocs that I think will fit over one of my trays. Are you using similar (but inverted) hole positions as what's in your "Ziploc FC" tek?

I break it down a bit Here

I also open the bag end a little once pins start coming in for when the fan comes on.  I open part of the zipper on one side and then do the same on the other side (leaving some still zipped between the two openings).. then pinch the top flap in one hand and the bottom flap in the other and slide them opposite each other and it offsets the zipper flaps leaving the openings, open.. you can adjust how big the openings are by how much you slide the flaps away from each other

Ends up looking like this


Although, I don’t think you can do that with slider bags as the mechanism is too stiff to stay open

No, this is Gellan gum not agar.

The recipe I follow:
500ml Distilled water
2.5-7g Potato Dextrose Broth
4g Gellan gum
0.2g Calcium chloride

With Gellan gum you need to add a source of positive ions, like magnesium chloride, sodium chloride, or Calcium chloride in order to bind the molecules together and make the gel set since Gellan gum is ionic but only possesses negative ions. Calcium chloride is more commonly used though as it gives a more "brittle" gel that "snaps" when cut.
I guess you could use just regular tap/mineral water but I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you know the ppm of your local tap. lol
0.1g for soft , 0.2g for regular, and 0.3g for a firm gel.

Was wondering if you guys could take a look at some of my plates if it isn't too much to ask.
I haven't grown Panaeolus in YEARS since starting this thread so a bit unsure on what I'm looking for or what I am looking at :facepalm: lol
The mycelia looks so different than the Panaeolus cambodginiensis "Sandose" and Panaeolus Cyan "Jamaica"
I grew long ago.. with those I was getting more so thick tomentose growth.
But here I am seeing some scary shi that looks like actual human hair and its "flat" like the Bisporus Coleville. It looks questionable to me.
The TTBVI seems to have some powdery stuff or like white dots/knots near the center where the transferred wedge is.
Any way could someone have a look over on these plates?
Also these are all from spore print and the first transfer plates from the germination plates (Komodo, Bisporus, TTBVI, and IND01)

Ah okay, I’ve never tried Gellan Gum but that’s more explanation than I’ve gotten before.  I have a bag sitting around, I’ll give it a try.

Quick question -

I have some bags that are now fully colonized with TTBVI (agar —> rye —> bags).  I would fruit them now, the problem is, I am leaving town in 23 days and will be gone for two weeks.

If I could get one flush before I leave, I’d probably prefer to do that. Not sure if I have enough time.

I won’t be back until about 5 weeks from now. Would the bags be okay to fruit after I get back, if I put them in a cool-ish dark place between now and then?

If I could get one flush prior to leaving, I’d probably do that, but not sure how fast I should expect these to fruit?

If I leave them in the bags in a cool dark place, would I be able to fruit them when I get back in five weeks?
